No it wouldn't but unless you want sli the other board is probably a better choice as the p35 chipset is better.

Your getting an 8800GT so you won't need SLI. No games really benefit from it at the moment, an 8800gt is a monster of a card. P35 is the way to go at the moment

is a supurb board with great writeups.

The only reason I can see for going with 64-bit vista is if your wanting to use a full 4GB RAM. Seeing as you're going for 2GB which is plenty for games today, I would recommend 32-bit XP. Using 64-Bit anything throws up a lot of driver issues.

Vista is a waste of money, I should know, I bought the bloody thing last year and its just so... meh.

Ok go for 32-bit Vista if you really must go for the extras like: Sidebar, Readyboost, Superfetch, LiveSearch, WindowsDefender, UserAccountControl, (I disabled all these as they crashed my system, generated masses of error logs, or simply did the good ol' fashioned resource hogging).

Things I use: Flip3D, Actually tried to disable it, but then you lose Aero...

Hang on here's the best reason: Thanks to DX10, you can now sacrifice a very large chunk of performance, for a very tiny bit more graphical improvement.

About SLI: As said, you wont be needing it, games barely use it and the drivers are rubbish. With the GeForce 9XXX series we're all being forced to use Sli on one card anyway, using two PCI slots is SO 2007.

You're not a fan, are you?

Lets just say the novelty factor wore off.

Now that I have most of Vista's so called 'features' disabled, I'm left wondering why anyone in their right mind would go for it over XP. I have successfully tamed Vista into this usable tool, but the only positive difference I see is Aero.

Vista is like being beaten over the head with a soft bat; kinda funny at first, then annoying, and after a few weeks you learn to live with it.

EDIT: Coilercat was a bit slow on the ol' popcorn uptake there, a whole hour, for shame!

EDIT2: The reason why I went for Vista, KNOWING its faults, is because I like to get my hands on stuff and see how it works [not in the creepy Sylar from Heroes choppy open heads way, but in a purely inquisitive way].
This is all to further my knowledge of the OS which I will with 100% certainty be having to fix on friends/families computers. Successfully tinkering with [breaking] then fixing computers is how I know everything that I do.

Anyway, we're offtopic a bit here, my fault.

no good post Alex, i'm beginning to think Vista is a complete joke, no benefits at all and everything is so backward and in the wrong place. They have made it so unintuitive and you need a lot more clicks of the mouse to do what used to be simple process on XP.

They have tried to simplify it to a degree where it bogs it down and complifies it LOL

My sig is so true

No wonder so many users are clinging to XP like shipwrecked sailors to a life raft

Vista is so much nicer and simpler to use to xp...

I remember when xp came out and people were refusing to go over from win98.
who'd dream of going back to win98?

it's just like most things yes coz it's new it can take a little getting used to.

this is just a case of the age old saying that people are against change.

I'm just toying with the idea of buying vista at the moment. I'm about to do a new build in the next few weeks, and I'd like to go for 4Gb ram, so that kinda limits me to Vista64 anyway... Its just interesting hearing other peoples experiences, as well as my limited time with it too...

I've had Vista running since the beta versions and so much prefer it to xp. had to go back to xp a couple of times when i had issues which turned out to be hardware related anyway, couldnt wait to go back to vista...

Think of vista like your partner... looks great, takes a litle getting used to but the odd ****ch usually gets sorted by reminding them who's boss. ;)

Yes I prefer vista as well. Got to learn to adapt...Its because its new and slightly different you stick with the old stuff..

I wrote a huge post about the annoyances I have with Vista, but it was a rant.

To sum up:

Its like Vista is trying to hide detailed information away from you in layers and present Dumbed Down versions of everything.

I then made another rant which I deleted...

Is that actually out now? Apparently you get a silly 30% performance boost from it!

When the Vista SP1 is actually going to slow it down according to tests on the release candidate.
