friend has a hp pavillion dv2000
it shows there is power but nothing on screen ?
what do you think it is ?
Does it asctually power up, like the HDD spins up or anything??
If it does it may just be the inverter for the screen comes loose.
Give it a shake see what happens.
Any bleeps? Have you tried an external monitor? Does it seem to boot otherwise?

someone had a look at it and says it needs a new motherboard
Then i guess it needs a new motherboard then.
Waste of money IMHO chasing faults on a laptop just buy a new laptop.

he only just told me ti needs a new motherboard.
looking on the bay you can get them for £70 so i will fit it for him.
might try a reflow first on the old board

sell it for parts and get a new one would be my suggestion as a new board will only fail in the exact same way, if you do get board for it then firstly make sure it is new, don't even think of getting a 2nd hand one and at least get one of those copper fillers off of ebay to replace the uselessly thick chipset thermal pad, that should hopefully increase the longevity somewhat (just search for dv2000 copper)
if it has a nvidia chip then that's whats gone and you can use a tea light candle tin and alcohol to heat it up and reflow it, the chip is below the ram slot and left of the HDD cover.
This and the the dv6000 have a massive problem with the mobo failing due to the graphics chips even the Intel's will fail in time.
Sounds like the gfx chip fault. Pretty screwed tbh.
Can try the towel method, or the heat gun method.
I was in the same situation until I discovered this forum:
nvidiadefect.com
It will assist you on securing a full refund or replacement laptop ;)
Might be a waste of money buying a replacement board
