Micrsoft Security Essentials gets my vote, lightweight, unobtrusive and as they collaborate with the same database all the other AV providers give to MS, it keeps nicely up to date as well.

+the best bit - it's free! It's in MS interest for it to be good, means they get less support calls when windows fails due to an infected machine.

Another vote for MSE. I'm using the beta and it's excellent, though I put the non-beta on machines for friends. Never had a complaint and it's noticeably less resource-intensive that other programs.

Yeah MSE and Panda Cloud work really well together and both are free.

I use NIS 2011 - it's very light, never had any problems but it's not free

Once more, another advocate for Microsoft. A really stunning peice of software, no bloat and unobtrusive which is exactly how AV should be. Also Free! Still have a good spyware checker as well though, such as Malwarebytes Antimalware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

MSE, Malwarebytes, Spybot, and Avast... all very good products :thumb:

I use McAfee myself as its provided free by my Broadband provider and has proved to be a good AntiVirus package.

However, when my dad changed his broadband package he needed a no cost AV package and so I went for the Micrsoft Security Essentials option. Easy to install, simple to use and update (just what my dad needs - lol) and it seems to work. :thumb:.

Another vote for Micrsoft Security Essentials, Spybot and MalwareBytes. I used to use AVG free and Comodo but they had issues on my computer. I don't think any of the paid for antivirus programs are worth the money, they try to justify the price with extra bloatware which ends up slowing down the computer.

I've installed MSE on about 15-20 Machines now and i have to say its been perfect so far. It doesn't seem to conflict with any other piece of security software i've had to use, so its a great little piece of software and should cover your needs adequately. Id also recommend running it alongside MBAM and/or Superantispyware to keep your PC clean. Remember to perform a full scan weekly to be sure nothing has slipped on unnoticed.

Not a great fan of MSE, been using the free Avast for years, never had a single problem. The new version is very good, lightweight and easy to use.
