Hi all,

Ordered my new setup as per signature. Spent like 4 hours trying to get it to first boot. I've built a few systems before so not a complete newb http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/wink.gif

Anywayz... i've checked all the wires, connections cards etc etc. Can't even get into BIOS. However when I insert my old graphics card 'ATI x1800 xt' it boots fine. The 8800gts when installed just sits there spinning its fan and monitor does not detect any graphics card. Yes I have connected the PCIe power to it http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/wink.gif

Any thoughts? cheers http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/confused.gif

Have you tried the 8800 in another pc to make sure it works?

Power supply may be too small

Seriously. Peter, how can the dimensions of ones PSU affect the performance of a graphics card. If anything its most likely that the card is DOA. If there was any problem with the PSU with regard to power then the pc would at least boot. And i seriously doubt that a near 480WTagan PSU be insufficient. Try the card in another machine.

You knew i meant the number of watts not the physical size

Well if you have the new build up and running with your 1800xt it doesn't look good for the 8800, unless it IS a lack of power but i would be suprised if it is tbh.

oh I forgot to mention I have even tried updating mobo to latest BIOS (504) like you say lack of power was my initial thought but then it is a 'Tagan' and I stripped out everything and it still wouldnt boot.

I'd definetly recommend you test the graphics card in another system.
If it doesn't work in there either, you know for sure it's faulty.

Chucked it into my old Mobo, still no sign of life http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/frown.gif

Looks like RMA, thanks for eveyones help http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hopefully because it was DOA I should get a straight replacement? otherwise would have to consider refund & buy else where?
