I have just built a computer with the main components being:
1 x Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R iP35 Express (775) Motherboard
1 x Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 1.8GHz (Retail 775)
1 x Leadtek PX8600GT TDH 512MB Dual DVI PCI-E Graphics card
2 x Kingston 1GB DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300 CL5 Non Ecc 1.8v

When first booted up, it started loading the drivers from th Windows XP CD but then got stuck. Subsequent attempts to start the computer resulted in it always getting stuck after showing the IRQ addresses.
I took it to a local repair shop whose report reads "The CPU fan is faulty - it starts spinning 30 sec to 1 min after the machine is turned on then it starts and stops....suspect that the cpu was overheating and locked up the machine...cannot be sure if the CPU has been cooked until the heatsink and fan is replaced, but this should be changed as a precaution."

Aria customer services told me to check bios build etc - but being a bit of a layman, can somebody put in to plain english what I am looking for please?

If the CPU isnt spinning cpu overheats. Turn it on and watch the cpu fan spins ok. If not you need a new CPU fan.

To be honest if it stops then maybe its smart fan, i would wonder about if its not been mounted properly.

If you can get into the bios (keep hitting DELETE during boot) i would check the temps from there. I would agree with Lynx though, the cpu fan starting and stopping could well be due to the mobo controlling the fan speed.

Managed to get into BIOS. Fan seems to be managed by mobo - once temp hit approx 22 deg C it seems to run pretty constantly. Also Smart FAN Control Method and Mode both set to auto.

So...any other ideas please?

I would say thats fine, is the ram set to the correct voltage and timings? because if not set that can cause huge instability problems.

I managed to get into the rescue section by pressing F12, and then instructed it to boot from the CDrom. It seems to be installing windows OK now (fingers crossed!). Thanks for suggestions - will keep you informed!
