Hi, I got a MSI GF8800GT OC 512MB graphics card a couple of weeks ago and a problem has developed where the fan on the card will sometimes not start spinning when the computer is started. If I gently touch the fan on the card it will start to run fine with temperatures when idle (47C) and playing games (no more than 70C). I think I am going to RMA it but before I do that I am wondering if is a power issue.

When I was building the system I got this case (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/Arianet+Vendetta+Midi+Case+?productId=27720). As there is absolutely no information apart from saying it has a 'superb 520W power supply!' I assumed it would be fine. But when I look at the side of the PSU it says the 12V rail is a max of 21A but the 8800GT box says it needs 26A. Also, the PSU does not have PCI-e 6 pin connector so I had to use a 1xPCI-e connector to 2x4 pin Molex connector.

So I don't know where the problem lies, is it not getting enough power to start the fan or it just faulty. Did I buy a cr@p PSU or a faulty card?

Any advice?
Thanks

Assuming that the fan staying still is the only problem (IE - it's not crashing in windows or games or anything) I reckon you've got nothing to worry about...
The fan will be throttled until the card is hot - it helps reduce the noise - it's perfectly possible that the fan is receiving the full startup voltage required to actually spin.

Are you having any stability problems?

I don't think it suppose to do that as I first realised there was a problem when the PC froze during a game and a nasty burning smell came from the card. This has happened again once after that. Now I have NVidia Monitorview running with an alarm set if it reaches 80C.

perhaps your heat sink on the graphics card is not making contact with the card, I'd return this item and get a replacement.

I think I will have to return as well. What bothers me is if I return it and it turns out it was a power issue I am out of pocket. Also getting a 8800GT of any sort never mind the model I got may be easier said than done.
