never used mac or vista, always sucked at trying to use linux, so it'll have to be xp.

probably should have gone to something easier rather then gentoo for first time linux experience.

if you want to learn about linux, the wost thing you can do is learn to use it on ubuntu, try out some older linux distros before you start messing with things that look pretty. the new ubuntu for me is the VISTA of the linux world; saying that though i do use openSUSE :P

I am so peeeed off with linux today :|

I know its meant to be extra secure but I think they go to the extremes on some areas. Takes you 6 hours to do something its that secure!

Ive used Linux in the past and so far my favourite distro is opensuse.

I dont agree with jumping in the deep end by using the older distros, that wont help newbies to the OS. Im all for making linux simpler and leaner and less draconian than Windows.

If linux made it easy to install drivers like windows. then i'd happily use it but everytime i try and installi linux, it struggles detecting and seting up my wifi..

If all the hardware manufacturers made installing drivers as easy as nvidia then linux would be a winner.

if your setup is up to it you should all be gaming on vista. yes its drops your fps and it takes longer to load but by god it makes things look so much better, even older games.

now that SP1 is out, i may give it a try, but for gaming sessions such as i33 i'll be suing Windows XP, every FPS counts towards killing that other player!

You may regret that....
With SP1 installed, PCFormat done a test, and found that Windows XP with sp3 installed (I know its still in beta) ran up to 10% faster than the Vista.

Vista .... Boil in the bag software.
Not finished, undercooked, and under done... done, as in you have been.
Is it right that microbodge should have released a BETA "operating system" (Misnomer if ever there was one) onto the unsuspecting populace?...

I am waiting to see what Longorn will turn out like....
If its still called longhorn by then.....

I'll be ok, i've got Vista and XP dual booted :), the reason why XP runs faster than Vista is because lazy manufacturers havent put in enough money to mature the drivers for all of the nice hardware they make. It was exactly the same scenario when XP first came on the market. People said, oh we'll stick with 98 & 2000, XP is rubbish, there is no hardware / software support for it available, sure XP was a lot stabler but my god it had some vulnerabilities in it.

As for the next windows (Windows 7 MS are calling it, formaly Vienna)
There is a mention of its kernel in this video (about 4 mins in)

My vista loads faster than my XP ever did, and it stays fast compared to my xp which got slower!

I agree - I don't reboot my home PC at all - it's on 24/7 and rebooting it is only done when I absolutly must.

Vista X64 has been more stable, smoother and with more features than XP...

Vista x64 > all others :)

Or even

Windows server 2008/2003 + Vista

i find most of the problems with vista occur between the chair and the keyboard, the OS once setup well and is running i find pleasant and easy to use :) - im not much of a linux fanboy, although i have fedora running through virtualbox on my server, if i ever need it.

(virtual box allows me to remote desktop directly into fedora, which is good because virtualbox over remote desktop sucks :) )

Can you not ssh -XC on your fedora install? then you can run the linux programs from your Windows OS?
