Howdy peeps

I have a friend who has just emailed asked me if there is anyway to change the default search paths of CCleaner.

Does anyone know of how to do this, or an alternative to CCleaner ?!?

He has an unusual setup with the system drive as 'D' (?) and he has also moved his User Profile to yet another drive - I believe 'E' so it would need to scan his D drive from Program Files and program temp files, and also scan his E drive to root down and find and clean his internet exploder cookies/crap/temporary files.

I would be grateful for any suggestions - CCleaner has done the job for me for years now, and I've therefore recommended it to most of my friends, but perhaps I know need to look for some more advanced alternatives. In the meantime, he will just have to clear it all manually!

I have always found registry "cleaners" nothing more than snake oil. They do nothing. My best advice to anyone is to get a good AV, a good malware removal program and be careful about what you do and don't click.

CCleaner is fantastic snake.

Whenever I run the registry cleaner in it I can see a noticible speed difference on my family PC.

Don't know how you could change file paths though.

I suppose the difference is I don't get clogged up by stuff at all. My system is very responsive. Never found ccleaner to do a thing for me.

My computers don't, but when my sister plays sims 2 24/7 and my dad is always on iPlayer etc... It really makes a difference.

PCGP - Thanks for this helpful bit of info

Snakedoc - CCleaner in this instance was being used to remove all the crap files from their machine, and not so much for cleaning the registry. I do believe that cleaning the registry really depends on the usage of that machine - I find it makes the most difference on an old machine, running XP for example with under 1GB of RAM. Cleaning all the junk files, and running a registry scan, often for the first time in years does make a noticeable difference in my experience. However, saying this, with the machines at work whereby users don't install/uninstall software or surf crap all day long doesn't really make much of a difference even though these are Dells from 2004-2006!

Not if you moved the user area etc.. after you installed it.
