using my netgear dg834gt with BT

hi guys i want to ditch the bthome hub as its rubbish

i have tried to connect using the netgear but there is no internet despite the netgear showing its connected and has an IP etc etc.

i have put in the bt username and no password as it states on other forums but i still have no internet ?

any ideas on what i need to do ?

Is this ADSL 2 ? if it is as far as im aware you dont even need the username just plug and go?
