If you include the rule about 10% overhead would mean Im getting over 20mbit.
Otherwise 19mbit - 20mbit.
do virgin use fibre optic cabling?
Yes, upto your house, then its normal wires from there.
I have fibre optic coming into my house. Proper B/B, None of this phone line stuff:P
The optical should conly continue to your house. Then the grey box turns it into digital cable, coax i believe.
20MB Broadband - £10
Tv With Over 100 Channels for like £6
:D

Ah yes. Coax sorry. Im off on one today:redface:
i forgot to mention I only have the free tv package but get all the channels available on my own freeview cable box (http://www.wizardsatellite.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=522&zenid=1ea9f5b8016f4e284d6d2d4cc78b6d1b). not advocating anyone else purchasing one just saying I have one. ;)

you got a crack box? how this price?
no, well we used to have one but not anymore, as i always say say your goign to leave Virgin Media, they put you onto someone else and they offer you deals to stay with them.
Thats why we have such low prices lol
I too have a "special" freeview box but its not working great at the moment so might scrap it:sad:
which 1 u got mat, maybe i can point you in the right direction
Ive the same as you linked to. And yes i think i have the current firmware. Seems to be a new one every week nearly.
One problem with it is that we have it routed upstairs so you can watch it from up there. But it seems to take out the signal for the rest of the TV's. I have an amp in the loft but its quite old, Some have a seperate "Sky" port on them.
When the box is off the signal upstairs is fuzzy and its ok when you turn it on. Like its boosting the whole house!:O
Have you signed up here (http://www.satdownloads.co.uk/smf/)and checked for a solution as i find them great. much like here. usually i get my firmware and updates from there but i only update every other month or so.
Yup. Thats where i get all my stuff from. Im signed up there too. Currently running 4.54. No EPG as usual though...
I think its more a cable problem though. More likely cheap hardware inside that doesnt boost too good..
theres a box out called EuroVOX, its LEGAL to sell them but ILLEGAL to have one lol, who the hell made that the law?
you can sell them but no have one? well if your selling them then that means you have one so its illegal, but then again it says if your selling its legal, so WTF !?!?!

If you turn off the EMU its prefectly legal. Just like a normal freeview box8)
I'm running 4.54 too mines fine. must be a cable issue then. strange.
micky the one i linked too is the same thing but is easier to use and looks nicer too ;)

As long as there's a working feed coming into the house they work.
At my uncles i just have the broadband coming in and i've split the connction to feed the box and the modem and hey presto i get all the channels. :)

What if virgin media see your house is getting all the channels and your not paying the £?

they cant, there systems dont show what each house is ACTUALLY getting. the box's decrypt the signal like the viewing card does that the cable providers supply. my uncles had his for 5yrs and i've had mine for 3mths now and no issues. as i say though this is how mine is and i'm not advocating anyone purchase one to bypass paying there cable provider for tv services. ;)

Sometimes my phone bill is..£90? A month.. the internet is I think £25 per month for I think its 4MB..I think I am being but****ed by virgins lol
Virgin upgraded me to £38 a month, for all channels but sport and movies, phone line and the 20mb connection.
I rang up retentions and said I was leaving due to loss of Sky 1 and internet was 4mb for £25 I said BE internet offered me 20mb for this price - hence the above deal :)
I have 4mb B/B,tv and talk any time (Phone for wife) for £26
WTF!!! I seriously need to get on the phone to virgin. My folks paying £18 a month for this ****.

20mb pipe
XL telly
XL phone
= £36
MLB looks like theres something wrong with your connection. My ping is 1/10th of yours and my connection is higher at 3mb down/300kb up... I'm on AOL though, but it's cheaper than that.
Maybe worth getting it checked out.
Thanks I'll defo need to get that checked out.
Might be a fault with ur set top box/cable modem.
Could be, I've had it for as long as I can remember.
Is it expensive to replace?
That'd be one for a Virgin customer to answer :)
I got a free one when i requested it, said im not getting the speeds i am supposed to get.
Yeah ring up and get a new modem, my 3 year old one was dropping connections and running as slow as a tortoise/snail/homer
Got the new tiny black modem and it flies like sh** off a stick!
Are you using a Settop box or a modem? STB's are only rated for around 8mb, and you don't often get that much out of them... Rule of thumb is ALWAYS tell NTL (or Virgin, whatever) tech when they come to install that you want a modem, NOT a STB as most will give you a STB as default because they are cheaper to the company...
Also, another problem can just be latency on the pipe you have... Unplug your modem and router from mains and leave off for a few minutes... Put them back in the mains and let them power back up. You'll have a new IP lease and you *should* (unless you have faulty wiring/equipment) have a faster speed. I found this out after a powercut once and realised I had a new IP and about 1/4 the bandwidth... Unplugging and plugging back in gave me a new IP and my 20mb back.

I love multi-threaded downloads! ;)

I turn my modem off everyday as its on the same surge protector as my pc. I must have a lot of IP lease history with Virgin!
On a sidenote, I heard on the radio about more and more people being fined for exceeding their DL limit, what is it on Virgin for each of the packages M L and XL?
On XL, which i am on, It is unlimited, but they throttle you if you download too much.

I think it's the same for all
LOL...
If that were true... I'd be on the next boat to Australia!
From some time to some time (sorry, trying to get a notebook to boot from usb as I type this and it isn't cooperating) if you download X amount, you get throttled back to 4mb (but resets after midnight)
I saw this for sometime after they announced it, but recently, I've been doing full 20mb all day, everyday without being throttled.
There is no cap/limit.

With my virgin cable my IP never changes unless I changed the mac address of the machine / router connected to modem.
I left everything off for a week and come back to still have the same IP.
I think its a good thing as long as you know how to change it when you want to.
I agree... I am only a recent convert to cable (Dec 06), up to that point, I refused to use it because of all the problems the cache gave as well as the IP's changing... I watched a mate of mine's IP change 3 times in an hour without powering down... It would just cycle through IPs.
But, then Bulldog started ****ing me about and I didn't really fancy a long downtime waiting for another DSL provider to hook me up so I bit the bullet and got NTL as they said since I already had cable telly, they could hook me up in 2 days.
Since going cable, I'll never use DSL again. Stable 20mb pipe, near enough static IP, no noticeable problems with cache... And all this for 1/3 of what I was paying for Bulldog!
you guys do know there is a very easy way of changing your ip address dont you?
Just change your mac address and restart the modem?
i have had my ip chage every day all week then nothing for months now :?:
edit
o yea
4mb (about to get free upgrade to 10Mb)

all tv bar movies/sports (ever heard of tvu player?)

What are the upload speeds of the packages?

But virgin only send the 20meg speed to the MAC address they have on file, so changing it would auto downclock you to 2 or 4 meg?

No it remains 20meg.
