You need to update the BIOS on the motherboard.

Can any 1 tell me how I can do so. Bearing in mind that I can only just get into the bios for about 10 secs max and the keyboard doen't seem to work when i get in to it, then the pc shuts down, if i can get a floppy drive and disk, load the driver onto it, will the pc boot on to the floppy 1st and update driver b4 crashing out ?

I RMA'd this board and it was found to be faulty....

Scince then I have had a Abit IN9 32-max. which I have had endless problems with and will not post now, giving an error 9.0. will be another RMA.

And am now waiting for another Striker to come (Friday I hope). Hope this sucker posts..:|

Are you taking care of the boards when you install them? Are you wearing an earth strap or mat? Using magnetic screwdrivers?

Seems strange to kill 2 boards!:|

i have a p5n32-e sli plus board (aria purchased)
i think im having a big issue, before i bought the sli psu
i had a standard atx with the 24pin thing on it.

it powered up everytime i turned it on ~(visuals etc)~
the case itself has been lacquered from the inside so theres 0% way its earthing.
i had another board with an agp socket previously, worked a treat (same cpu)

775 3.2GHz p4 no issues .
new ram 1GB kingston value ram.
i now have 2x dual xfx 8500 GT 512's
which i seen working when the system had turned on for the 20 seconds @ a time.
i bought an atrix 800Watt (atrix 800t) (aria purchased)

it turns on (as in powers up ~fans, boards light~, no beeps or visuals though)
kinda frustrating as this was my christmas gear lol

can someone give me advice, ive tried all clearances, removed board from case, tried OLD psu (no joy)

i have no other ram so i cannot swap to try (the ram is new)

the box of the board has a round orange sticker saying "Z00321" no idea what that is..
lol got to admit this is the first board ive had that hasnt done what its told.

if someone could help id be supreme'ly grateful
(im trying all options before any RMA conciderations)

p.s i do notice somthing on the bios chip, (some kind of line, not sure if its marker or burn)
on request i can put it up on my site to show
funny story about how i took the photo if ppl wants to know :p

took out ram and gpu , left board in clear cmos all night,
(safe location static free) turned it on this mornin (well' just) and no beeps

no chips was hot-ish not even cpu.
ive been through asus website a lot, tried a few things.

some parts of asus said the green light was standby (doubt it)
but i tried the standby button on kbd, no joy. was a pwr light as thought.

they even said try the ram in socket b1, (under-voltage)
but it didnt do anything so i couldnt try settings.

:evil:cannot see whats wrong, what can i do?
:evil:this is urgent:evil:

Is it connected to sound? there wont be any beeps if there are no speakers connected. Sounds dead imho..

supermorph

it has had the speaker connected.

definatley no beeps.
but the worst thing of all is its had no earthing at all so it has had no reason to die lol.

thanks for the help lynx

Just to close this post from my point of view guys.

U can't tell me that PC builders out there don't get consecutive dead mobos or GFX Cards or any other hardware. It happens. I am pretty positive that it's not my doing, I have been very careful when building this PC, It was built outside the case and yes I have an earthing wrist band. I don't own any magnetic screwdrivers. The story is too long and I don't have the time right now to tell it all....

Currently have a Striker board running pretty well altho when i built it, It posted and I installed windows outside the case. I installed board into the case and it would not post, After a few hrs off clearing and re-seating cards, the only explanation, a memory issue, Tried booting with 2 x 1gig of Corsair XMS2, would not post, MEM TEST ERROR, On a total whim I tried using 1x1gig Corsair and 1x2gig of OCZ DDR2 SLi Ready and it posted, so I saved the Bios and shut down, removed OCZ and added other Corsair stick and it worked. To date I still cannot run 4x1gig Corsair XMS2, i can run 3 sticks ?? or i can run 2x1gig Corsair and 2x2gig OCZ ??? find that very strange, I know all sticks are working.

Not very good @ documenting this kinda stuff so am sure what I have stated is missing some info but it's all I have time to write now..... if anyone has had similar issues and needs more info i will gladly help if i can,...

Final post will be when i get conformation on the Abit board from Aria.

You running Vista 64 by any chance?

Scrumpy J
12-01-08, 18:11
Nope, running xp 32bit, why ??

aid07
12-01-08, 18:20
xp 32bit will only show 3.25gig or somthing like that
64bit system should show 4gig and higher

Nope, running xp 32bit, why ??

Apparantly vista64 can have issues with 4 sticks of memory causing it not to boot.

What about voltages? Because if your not powering them enough then they wont boot.

i ordered a seperate (identicle) board
arrived and worked out of box:mrgreen:

note: the chip was marker (seen in a better light all text was visible)
so i can definatley say board has died .:sad:

but im happy i can now game until my hearts content lol.
:idea::arrow::twisted:

and scrumpy, id try bios settings should u get that far
if not try out of case setup with bare minimals to boot,

works for me if things get messy (except the current issue i had lol)

Scrumpy J

When in windows it's telling me I only have 3.25 gig installed when I have 6gig, but thats not causing a problem, prob is when I try and boot with 4 x 1 gig of matching pair Corsair the PC won't post, won't allow me into the Bios, do u think I could change Bios settings and and then shutdown, remove OCZ Ram and add the other 2x1 Corsair and it will post.? Not @ all versed in timings or voltages, so I don't have a clue what to do. thing is it's not causing a problem it's just very strange, u would think the board would like using all the same brand mem not 2 different types. Any ideas welcome and gratefull, will also check out the Ramguy www, states on the OCZ pakaging to check there 4 help.

Cheers

Will I think upgrade to Vista shortly, should I go 32 or 64 ??? pros \ cons ???

Also, how can I check on progress of the Abit RMA ??

The PC runs perfect, just can't get the mem sorted.

Definately change the bios settings before fitting the 4 sticks of corsair, just check on corsairs website that you aren't giving it too much voltage assuming thats what you were going to change, either with just 2 corsair sticks in or with the ocz fitted.

If you are upgrading and want / need access to the full 4gb then you really need 64 bit vista.

Not sure if yours is fixed now, but incase anyone else has the same sort of problem.

I had to do a lot of research into this board before i recieved mine, which was lucky as i had cpu init failure also. When installing this board, you need to use the insulating rings on all of the posts holding your MoBo in place. It doesn't like the mounts being earthed. This cleared the fault and allowed it to boot.

This board is very picky on memory also. has got better with the new bios versions but it is still a pain. If the board detects your settings for your memory, for certain makes it sets the incorrect timings and or voltage. make sure that you manually set these in your bios, and unlink the memory from the cpu via the bios as well. this cleared all my memory problems on my original build.

I did flash my bios to v 1303 which had more memory compatibility than previous versions.

This may help, may not, but it worked for me and mine ran for 5-6 months without a hitch, wont say it still works as i have posted another thread on it dying the other week, unrelated to these settings tho:)

"When installing this board, you need to use the insulating rings on all of the posts holding your MoBo in place. It doesn't like the mounts being earthed."

Tommo great advice, I think 75% of faulty boards at the moment which won't even boot are simple things like mounting posts shorting the board - or mounting posts in the wrong place.

to scrumpy j:
i meant because of the ram issue, aka take some out, check settings, and try again, as someone said could be under-volt, which strangely some boards, dont adjust automatically.

to the others: cardboard is a good choice lol , if u has the box, close it and stick on top, i did :)
