Hi

Been reading around the forum and you all seem very helpful......

My PC is old n slow, like me.

Fortunately I can replace its innards and give it a new lease of life.....

I intend to buy a new case (i like the soprano cases) and all that goes inside.

My current system is an AMD one, never had any problems, but that doesnt mean its any better than an INTEL system, any road up I wouldnt know anyway.

I have a 17" digimate that seems to do the job ok. I could also keep my DVD drive couldnt I?

I want to spend about £500 inc vat, I like me games, well the kids do. and I like me music.

Can anyone out there help me put a component list together?

Motherboard!!!!!!!!!! where do I start?
RAM...not a clue!!!!
GFX card...to many to chose from....ATI. NVIDIA?????
AMD or INTEL!!!
Onboard sound or sound card?!?!?!?
SATA drive, IDE drive?????

some guidance...any guidance......pleeeeeeeeeeeeeez:confused:

Cheers

DG

Seems to me you have basically answered you own question there dude.

To me that looks perfect, and if its all within your budget then even better.

Dont forget to rip your XP license off your current PC and Dual Boot XP with Vista so you can have the best of both worlds.

for £2 more i'd get the 600w (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/500w+%2B/OCZ+600W+StealthXStream+PSU+?productId=26933) version. otherwise looks cool.

get the home premium version of vista though.

For bang for buck I think this is the ultimate sub £600 high end gaming build. Forget spending £1500 on a gaming system - this will do it all >>>

Blinkin heck you lot dont hang around do you?

Ta for the info.

ok, what advantage would having xp and vista give me?

does that mean I would have to install both operating systems?

Would that not cause conflicts? Would it not be best to stick to a single OS?

Cheers

Some people prefer to have both o/s incase of an issue with the other. personally i've got vista installed and have no issues with it. occasionally i install xp and use that for a week and think WTF!! and go back to vista. it's all down to preference.

Hi

Im still lookin....takes me ages to decide what to have:p

The Antec case is cheap and cheerful, would I be better off going for something more up market? With the GFX card n stuff fit in it ok? Im not into overclockin so I assume the Antec would keep things cool enough.

I was looking at the coolermaster centurian or the TT Soprano, do I need to look further thatn the Antec?

is this any good? http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/Akasa+Zen+Silent-Cool+-+Black?productId=25262

I know I probably shouldnt go toutin other sites, so I wont.....but this looks like a good deal......

Hi

What cooler does the CPU come with?

The GFX card is nice, but like £50 over my original plan.

DG

It comes with the Intel cooler which is more than good enough, Intel base there 3 year warranty on the fact you use this cooler!

You will have a job getting 8800GT's at the mo they are like rocking horse dung! the 8800 gts 512 new version is slightly faster and probably your only choice due to no stock anywhere.
