Hey guys I hate the knew version of messenger the 2011 one. I was hoping you could downgrade to an older version of messenger, but I don't know if it can be done and how.

Do you still hate it after changing the view so it looks like the old one?

I'm having problems with it like it says my pc can't support video calling well the graphics yet it works with skype.

Hmm I'm using Win7 too. To be honest, I hate it. The tabs idea uses so much RAM, it's got to the point where i can't have conversations without it freezing between every letter I type.

On the right are the previous versions :)

I had this problem too, Aaron. It froze when I wanted to type and it stopped responding when I wanted to open a window to chat, for up to 10 seconds at a time. I got rid of it. It is absolutely terrible.

The easiest way to get it is just go to Google, type in "Windows Live Messenger 2009 download" and take one of the links. Uninstall the 2011 version and install 2009. You're done.

I didnt upgrade to the new version

what annoys me is when they start making you use the new version

Sorry just to add to my previous post, don't try to get the online installer. It usually doesn't work as they're trying to push the new version. (Well, that's my thoughts...)

You can download the full, offline 2009 version from here (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml).

Enjoy.

Then it's time to use another service until they short this one out.

I keep getting a message saying flash player needs to be installed - when i click ok it takes me to the page to download it but msn starts up normal anyway, and when i press cancel it comes up as normal - this seems a bit tempermental to me

I've heard a lot of bad things about the new msn, I'm glad I haven't upgraded to the latest yet. Could anyone post a few screenshots of what the new one looks like?

Why can't they just leave it instead of trying to make it better, but make it worse?!

Suppose thats in the users opinion though. I actually prefer it to the old version. I actually like having fb chat on there too. Tabs help keep it cleaner on my desktop too. I also like how you can show online to 1 or 2 & offline to everyone else without having to block them.

At a guess theres probably quite alot of users who like having fb chat in there too.

The tabs and online/offline features sound ok but as for the Facebook chat, just no. Why are they trying to make it like Facebook?

Yes I think you're right. I've personally noticed that msn is heavily losing "marketshare" to facebook chat. It's something that does get on my nerves because facebook chat is so badly put together and unreliable, but I guess it just comes down to convenience. I sense that this is a downwards spiral for msn unless they get their act together.
