Hi all

I just ordered that lot (above) and have been trying to set it up tonite.

I'm getting power to the motherboard as the CPU fan comes on and the other case fans but I get nothing out of the onboard video outputs. There are two on this board DVI and normal d-sub, but i get nothing from either.

I noticed something in the manual from the ASrock site that said that the default video setting for this board is PCI and not PCIe or (as I would have thought) "onboard". This would seem to make out that I need a PCI card to just boot the thing up? Cant be right so I'm assuming the board may be faulty.

I've tried all combinations of configuration I can think of, no HDDs, no other cards etc and the result is the same everytime, nothing at the video outs.

Anyone any ideas?

I think I may be sending my stuff back for testing but this was supposed to be my Xmas pressie (from the missus of course!) :-)

cheers

I would assume that pci and pcie are the same thing. I guess its an interegrated video card, so just cmos reset and try the outputs again?

thanks for the reply Lynx but I've tried that too with same results...

I've also taken the mobo out of the case and onto an insulated surface in case there is anything shorting out on the underside etc. I read it somewhere in a forum so I thought I'd give it a shot, but still the same result.

cheers

Got any cards you can try in it? If not, then you could always get a cheap 8400 for like £20, i prefer the ATi counterparts myself. They will ensure stability on the northbridge too.

So you are using the onboard video, and not an actual video card? I used an ASRock mobo in a build late last year, and if i remember rightly, the PCI setting was for the onboard video card and the PCI-E setting was for the actual PCI-E slot for a video card so it should work.

Have you tried the monitor anywhere else? Or maybe just a different cable? And checked everything is plugged in securely, including the power? It sounds patronising, I know, but we've all been there, done it! :D

thanks for the replies again guys - much appreciated to get some suggestions.

yes I am just trying to use the onboard video outputs, not a PCI or PCIe card.

unfortunately I dont have any video cards to try in this mobo - my old system has an AGP card. i may go buy a cheap PCI card just to see if it is that silly, but Id rather avoid it if i can.

the prob is that I've got three new components, the mobo, CPU and memory so I dont know which is to blame.

I was upgrading my old PC so replacing the mobo, CPU and memory, and then re-using the case, PSU, monitors and drives, but have now reverted it all back and its working fine as I type this, so I know its something to do with the three new components.

I dont know of anywhere to go test the individual parts, so I guess I'm stuck with a return :-(

Any beeps? Take the memory out to see if the mobo complains (beeps) at you. Other than that i can only suggest replacement parts or RMA, nothing going on on the screen is a little hard to diagnose.

No there are no beeps which is why I'm suspecting a mobo problem in the first instance but I have no way to check. I know that the spkr on the case is fine as it beeped on startup this morning.

I've tried the new mobo with and without the memory, memory in diff slots, in singles and pairs, they are matched as I bought them from Aria at the same time.

Am I right in thinking that if there are no beeps its likely to be a mobo failure?

I think I will get a new case anyway as I've realised I want to keep my current machine intact, so I'll get one tonite and try once more before I return anything.

If I do need to return stuff, is it advisable to return everything for testing or replacement or just what I think is faulty?

Its often posted a lot on here about PSU so just to check your PSU is ok enough for the Quad core cpu ?

Also I dont know how good you are with this building PC stuff but did you connect an additional power connection as below?

Hi

Yes i've got the yellow/black 4-pin connector connected as per the image - and I get the CPU fan and drive(s) to spin up.

I have a 400 Watt PSU - does the quad core need something meatier then? I've tried to fire this up with nothing but the mobo, CPU and memory in place so no other drain on the PSU.

Again, thanks for the replies and support!

What 400w psu do you have?? please dont say it's a generic psu that came with a case. if so that'll be your prob.

No it didnt come with a case but i think it is a fairly generic (Jeantech?) type from PCWorld... I think i got it cos the previous one blew up... I currently run a P4 3.4GHz off it.

So would a 400W PSU not be enough to power the new board, Q600 CPU (+ its fan) and a memory stick???

Quad core draw like double a dual core/P4 does. I would reccomend taking back the pc world one saying its unsuitable for your needs and get a decent one :)

ah ok - but I bought the old PSU for my old single core P4 not my quad core... and it was in desperation to get the machine up and running the same day ! LOL

Anyway - would a 520W PSU do?

What make?

'Jeantech' he said above :S

Go with tystar's suggestion, its very popular.

So MANY problems lead back to dodgy PSU's don't they?!
