View Full Version : ***CLOSED*** Thursday PM Comp
Hello everyone
We got a PSU back that looked like it had been thrown in a bonfire.
When questioned, the customer said that he had flicked the voltage switch over while his PC was still on because he thought it would save on his power bills...
Is this true or false?
Answers in by 10pm and a shiny PSU to the winner!

It is True. 100%
False, no one's that stupid..........
if it's true, i have doubts about humanity.

Then i plugged the power cable in & POW.

I would think false, but most of these competitions end up being false answers. So I'm going with true
false, I think some is that stupid, but i don't think they would bring it back afterwards

Gonna stick with true, bound to be sooner or later

21-10-10, 16:05
true true true :D
fingers crossed it is true this time, and not another of Robins embellishments... :ninja:
50%, I will go for FALSE... as when the main power is down your computer will be shut down without any problem...
Got to be true as I know someone who did just that.

True, and is one of the reasons i thing those types of manual switch units should be banned, because user stupidity can never be under-estimated !!

true....
Hmm tough one but i'll say TRUE too.
Hmm, I think that it's very possible the customer did that, but also that it wouldn't have looked like it's been in a bonfire either, sooo, false? I'm going to go with that.
Back when I did PC recycling for a very little while, I learnt that not checking foreign PSUs are on 230V often results in loud pops!
BurningFeetMan
21-10-10, 19:41
Im gonna guess it's true :)

Definitley true, I know a mate who did it. Smoke billowed out. Rather funny.

21-10-10, 20:24
im going for true.
witnessed the result of this myself, and while it didn't quite look like it had been on a bonfire, it certainly smelt like it....
so if the psu was full of dust and pet hair then i say yes, definately.
if it was a newish one then unlikely it would burst into flames*
*if the brand was q-tec then i would have believed it, even had you said he just plugged it into the wall
that sounds daft enough to be true
Closed!
I'm afraid this one is...
true!
The customer said his PSU did something like a 'Catherine Wheel' impression and sparks came flying out through the fan... and then it just burned :D

I was sure it was false, had three psu returned for the same thing and hardly a mark on them. Ah well better luck next time. Congrats to the winner

I'm really confused now, do we take post 39 and make that the winner or do we compile a list of all the 'trues' and number 39 wins.
I vote second option because then I win :P

I vote redo it in Excel....
I vote make Jason and Me the winner.
He can have 200w and I'll have the other 200w.
Sorted.
Aye, I was going to take the closest to the post picked, but it fell on a true one.
We are giving two prizes away every day.. you should all win eventually ;)
Use RANDOM.org to vote between the first post and the last.
EG first number is 24... DT says the incorrect answer.
So a second number is randomised.
This time its 45 and Jackster's post is number #45.
Jackster has the correct answer and wins...

Congratulations Jason then.
I'll stick with my value 320W for now then on my to be built server :P
