having had a bad winter last year we are in for another cold one.

Not just the holes people need to watch out for. Was out last night and with only 140bhp in a fairly hefty rwd car I was going sideways because I put a bit much power on when I was taking a corner (loads of tread on my tyres). It wasn't icey but cold weather means cold tarmac which means much reduced grip so watch out on the roads!

I've had these tyres on for a few k miles and they have been fine, right up to the cold weather.

We have a local road that was resurfaced along its full length last year, before winter as part of some remedial work to various waterways.

It lasted 2 months before it started cracking and had to have the top layer removed again, this time with road markings applied to the sub-surface as the budget wouldnt cover another new top layer.

Funny thing was, the road was just fine before they first started messing with it.

Yes they're a pain in the buttocks, but you can simply drive around them, or slow down for them

STOP COMPLAINING. :D

When i bought 18" wheels for my bmw m3 convertible i made a point of not selling the standard 17" wheels, as soon as october came i would put the standard wheels back on because winter time is a pot hole fest and im blind as a bat when driving.

Will
22-10-10, 10:14
He might.

But i'd willing to bet the majority of pot holes are avoidable. Yes its a pita but you can just drive round/over.

Exactly, it's really not hard :P

I wouldn't have even bothered with this thread usually but at the moment I'm on a real 'clamp' down on complainers :p

I've started a new job recently and compared to my old job it is bliss and **** easy (physically) but the amount of people you hear complaining at my new work "oh I had to wait 5 minutes for xxxx"

Seriously 5 minutes is nothing.

I was treated like a hero or something when I took a couple of calls when I'd been clocked out as it suddenly became really busy when I was about to leave. It was just something I'd expect everybody else to do :surprised:

You've not driven many roads then. Most of the roads around here with potholes would require you to slam your can into oncoming traffic to avoid the potholes. ;)

*Sigh*

Seriously though, driving into a pot hole and damaging your cars suspension part, wheel etc is annoying. I've cracked a few alloys in my time due to pot holes in the rain because their practically invisible. As annoying and costly as it is its just something we all have to live with.
If you do drive a car with expensive aftermarket wheels just buy a cheap set of wheels to use as winter rims.

They are cheaper than speed bumps....... Less TAX,,,, GOT IT?

I feel everyone's pot hole pain..

Been there got an alloy wheel on my car out of shape because of it.. had to swap it to the rear because of the vibration it gave to the steering, not forking out the expense of a new one.

Road maintenance these days's is atrocious to what it used to be like, and I really hate the patch & grit approach as soon as a cold spell & a few trucks pass over its back to square one.

Not forgetting the gitt surfacing has caused me 2 cracked widescreens from when trucks have passed and kicked the chips up at high speed chipping and causing a crack.

So yes POT holes :censored::censored::censored:

I couldn't believe what I saw last year. Potholes all along the B1150 here:
http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=52.665712,1.322222&spn=0.009591,0.027874&z=16

And what road was repaired? This road which hasn't been used since the closure of the RAF base in 2006:

Aptly named Potspoon Hole. A mate of mine used to go driving down that road back when he had his Land Rover, driving through the huge potholes which formed a sort of roller coaster ride.

You must drive fast!

Actually we drive about 5-10 mph over speed humps and pot holes we slow down to about 5mph. I have a scoliosis which is a curved spine and any pothole or speed hump causes me a lot of pain.

The thing with pot holes is you can't always see them, unlike speed bumps are usually painted and have signs leading up to them.

I've cracked a few alloy wheels over the years hitting invisible potholes, i even bent a lower wishbone hitting one. Usually happens when its raining its worst as they become even more invisible.

You should try driving down them then. I drive a 44 tonner and used to regularly collect from Tunstead and Worstead... DON'T take a wrong turn is all I can say !!

And at Col .. I've taken said 44 tonner from Wroxham under that bridge to Coltishall (awesome butchers place t'other side of the bridge) tiz funny seeing car drivers have heart failure when they come ar2eholing round a bend to see the entire road filled with steel (me).

Clue.. (at everyone) Country roads are the very place you DON'T drive like a knob on.

I was legally driving on my own at 17 and experienced all sorts of road conditions. That was years ago, but just because someone is 18 doesn't mean they know nothing about driving or roads.

You wouldn't be referring to those huge Yearsley Group/Inovate artics, would you? I see them a lot around Coltishall and Worstead. That butcher in Hoveton (not Wroxham :D) I haven't been in for years. Apparently he's really expensive.

And the B1354 between Coltishall and Wroxham is far too much a narrow country road to be classed as a B road.

It's funny you should say that right at this particular moment. My car is currently in for service at the moment, and the weather is none too great, but I've been thinking of starting a topic on here involving a camera, and possibly my car if I cover a bigger distance. Nothing about potholes though. Stay tuned. :)

Also, I was going to suggest that while you're waiting, take a trip down Potspoon Hole on Google Street View, but it only covers up to the bend with the gate onto the RAF base. Maybe they couldn't continue through fear of destroying their car on the potholes! From the other end of the road (The Fairstead in Scottow), it also only covers up to the bend before the holey bit!

The images on Google Street View are years old. The buildings and the airbase are still there, but that SES sign you see on the fence refers to SES Security, a security firm hired to protect the base while the government was still deciding what to do with it. This is before HMP Bure was built on the site.

I already did that (http://www.upload3r.com/serve/261010/1288093744.jpeg)

Here's That bridge I was telling you about (http://www.upload3r.com/serve/261010/1288093875.jpeg)
Oh, THAT bridge. I thought you were talking about this bridge:
http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=21+Tungate+Way,+Horstead,+Norfolk+NR12+7,+Un ited+Kingdom&ll=52.728015,1.355996&spn=0.004353,0.027874&z=16&layer=c&cbll=52.72801,1.355991&panoid=BoGAEKZaqw40tRqgxX5Imw&cbp=11,261.4,,0,11.79

Yeah well all the bridges that you go over or under around here are far too narrow. You can fit two passing cars under/over them, but if a lorry/bus comes the other way then the car had better hold back!

Not Yearsleys and Innov@te no longer exist (Tesco drove them into bankruptcy, Stobart bought the profitable bit).
Yearsley Group's lorries are everywhere around here, always going backwards and forwards through Wroxham, Coltishall, Worstead and Scottow. They must still exist in some form...

The butcher I was referring to is actually a Sausage manufacturer near Coltishall called TC Fines.
Ah, THAT butcher. Yeah he closed up a few years back and it became a sausage factory, but even that's closed now. The silly thing is, there is an awful lot of interest in that site, but the owner isn't interested unless it re-opens as another sausage factory.

See, I thought you meant THIS butcher:
http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=21+Tungate+Way,+Horstead,+Norfolk+NR12+7,+Un ited+Kingdom&ll=52.713497,1.408739&spn=0.004355,0.027874&z=16&layer=c&cbll=52.713501,1.408729&panoid=imd29SriTKA1XI8VImbF0Q&cbp=11,283.27,,0,6.45

which is literally just round the corner from that bridge you mentioned.
