Hi and welcome to the forum. :D

£900 should get you a nice set up. I would recommend taking the spec of the mid price system here http://www.aria.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3083 and upgrading a couple of things.

The first thing i would upgrade would be the graphics card, now the obvious choice would be an 8800gt, BUT they are like rocking horse manure at the mo so getting one might be alot easier said than done. Next up i would upgrade to Quad core the Q6600 to be precise this should be nice and future proof and with a bit of luck / coaxing you should see 3ghz+ with some overclocking.

That would be where i would start, you can also look at upgrading other things if you think it is necessary, ie 4gb of memory maybe.

Cooling wise you WILL need something beefy if overclocking a quad, top end air cooling minimum or watercooling.

I can recommend the ASUS 22" monitor definately, i tested mine briefly the other day, Q6600 and an 8800GTS or GTX definately

Get the OEM version - 28805 - save £13 add £5 and you get - 20729 and 9573

As for a PSU - 26933, leaves you with £90 for a case and some fans

Corsair 550W VX Series PSU (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/500w+%2B/Corsair+550W+VX+Series+PSU+?productId=29383)

IF, and its a big IF, you can wait i would get the 8800gt, it cheaper and more powerful than the GTS. Problem is, like i said, getting one as they sell out as soon as they come into stock.

The other option would be to get a cheapo get you by card till the 8800gt becomes more readily available.

As to psu, any of the ones suggested would suffice. As long as you get a good brand you should be ok and OCZ, Corsair are pretty good, i have the 500w version of the ocz in my media setup and its rock solid and quiet too.

The new GTS is better than the GT but the old one isn't, or so i was told, as far as i understand there is no new GTS, with the 9series out soon

Should be, like you say though they aren't out yet and im not sure when they will be hence the 8800gt suggestion.

So there isn't a revised version of the 8800GTS?

CallumRogan

i'd definatly go for the corsair, they're quiter than the OCZ, and should last longer aswell

the one to look out for is the 8800gts 512mb this is the new revised version.
if you dont wanna wait and can get a 8800GT then buy this.. DO NOT BUY THE CURRENT 8800GTS Range you'll be disappointed.
