If i was to use software such as Acronis (other suggestions welcome) to mirror the contents of a drive onto a newer one (thats the plan any way) would Windows still be bootable?

The family PC is currently running on some crap laptop hard drive so i was thinking of sticking an F3/4 in there - however i don't really want to go through installation and backing up etc hence my enquiry. :)

I transferred my windows 7 partition from a 300gb drive to my main 1tb drive

and aside from a problem i had with the boot sector being on the main drive and i kept deleting it

it worked fine :)

If you are running win 7 the software for creating a system back works just as well and it's free ( well ok not free but comes as part of the os ) used a win 7 image to transfer my os from a raptor to a solid state worked perfectly !

Last time i did this with Acronis it worked perfectly
