Been having a lot of trouble with our router recently and I thought I'd post it on here to see what you guys thought.

Basically, we have a D-Link DIR-615 n router (the one that comes with virgin media) which I flashed with DD-WRT. It's given us nothing but trouble:

1. UPnP won't seem to work properly on with multiple Xbox 360 consoles. One console gets an open NAT, the other two either moderate or strict. Manual port forwarding works sometimes but not all the time. I thought this was pretty odd as I have a Linksys WRT54GS with DD-WRT which will work absolutely fine with UPnP.

2. Xbox lag issues over wireless G. My console has a G adapter, the other two have N, one is an adaper, the other is a new console so it's built in. Every few seconds (approx 5-10) my connection drops off very momentarily. This is noticeable both in gameplay and in game lobbies where the "waiting for party leader" flashes momentarily when the drop off occurs. I've tried a different G adapter which doesn't help, and my mates N adapter which works fine; so the problem is definately G.

I've restored the routers original firmware, which seems to have fixed the UPnP issue, however the original firmware isn't ideal; it tends to lock up when downloading heavily. This also didn't solve the xbox live lag issue.

Any ideas what on earth is going on? I'm convinced that router just sucks majorly.

I don't advise to use the one that your ISP provides.

I also have trouble with them so i got a unused one off my mate...

Works a treat.

Aye as if virgin media would know anything about routers. I would use my trusty Linksys, which works a treat, the only problem being it's lack of N draft.

what version of dd wrt was you using ?

not had a single problem with both my D615 SVN revision 14311

would give the xbox's static ip addys from the router and see if that helps

Had my DIR-615 for just over a week now, seems good so far, and a huge improvement over the :censored: that BT and Be* ship out :D

Firmware Version : 1.00VG if that helps at all.

Ok cheers, I can't remember the version I'm running of the top of my head but I'll have a look.

Yeah that's the same version firmware ours has. It seems decent enough for normal use, as you say better than many, it's just heavy downloading that locks it up hence why I put DD-WRT on.

I have to be honest i didn't even use its original firmware on it at all, any firmware that gets zero updates will be full of bugs virgin only have had one version 1,00VG as far as i know all of there routers have this

you want to stay stock download the latest version from the Dlink site
and you can bet it will be miles better than the virgin 1.00VG firmware

I would do this if you and see how it goes ...failing that you could try
what i said in my last post

Well, I've reinstalled the DD-WRT (same version) on the thing. Both issues seem to have disappeared.

I'd tried simply restoring to factory settings before, to no avail. Maybe there was a bug in the firmware

At least it's working (for now).

We did try this at one point, had no luck at the time.
