Not really up to date with the latest netbooks so would appreciate some suggestions. Basically I'm looking for a netbook < £300 (maybe £320 at a push). Must have good battery life and decent specs. So if anyone is knowledgeable about netbooks please post some suggestions.

Make sure you get 2GB of RAM, my HP Mini 210 is much better on 2Gb over 1GB.

Agreed ...thats the first thing I did..... mind you I had a 2gig stick lying around from my ASUS EEEPC... that was a good little netbook... Its running ubuntu netbook remix which has brought it back into the useful category..... even with only 1 gig...

Thinking of selling it on here...

Thinking about getting the MSI Wind U160 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Laptops/Netbooks/MSI+Wind+U160+10%22+Netbook+?productId=40463) and upgrading it with 2Gb RAM.

I have got an eee pc 1000H. a pretty good little machine, but the batteries longevity didn't last long :[ However, it has 1GB ram, and an atom 1.6Ghz processor, and is fine for win XP. So I think a new model in this range would be a an ok choice (2GB RAM, etc). Keyboards nice to use too!

don't get a 10" one would be my advice, it's just far too unfriendly using 1024*600 and makes web browsing especially a completely annoying, slow and just a plain miserable experience :(

I'm thinking of selling my n220 due to this it's just sooooo annoying

Its a great wee machine. If you look on skinflint.co.uk you will see it £10 cheaper elsewhere with free delivery, so the money saved could go to the extra ram. Aria might price match for you if you phone, but you'd have to ask about delivery as well.

10" is fine, I used my Eee 701 which is a 7" screen and it wasn't too bad. My Aspire D150 is all good apart from the touchpad is rubbish.

My other half has a Dell mini 1011. It is a nice little bit of kit and i don't find the screen too small for browsing, but it's all personal preference.

I wouldn't recommend it to you though, you mention you want good battery life, and the 1011 just does not have that at all. So it's one to avoid in your case, even though nothing really wrong with it :)

Just realised how helpful this post is  :)

noticed this today whilst looking for a replacement for my netbook and while it maybe the upper end of you budget you can get the Acer Aspire Timeline 4810T for £320 which will blow any netbook away , just google product search to find it

That seems like a pretty good choice, is that with Windows 7 Starter though?

I think so. Doesn't really matter as I'll be installing Ubuntu on it anyway.

These are good for the price:

Awesome battery life, decent spec and well reviewed on release. also Ebay keeps getting deals on different models for around £150, but I am yet to see one with a top battery appear there. If you are looking for higher spec I would go for an Ion model with a bigger screen, which will cost more like £320.
