We can get it in oldham, which is great, as the estimated speeds are 23.1 down, 10mb up :D
Only thing is, their FUP is about as vague as a foggy thing in some fog.. But Im considering it tbh.
Best thing is, my mates about 5 miles from me, on the edge of rochdale, and it predicts his line speed as 4.5mb, which is what I get on a good day with o2.
Just done a quick check on a winsford number....

where did you find that?
If you follow the link I posted earlier ...then on the right hand side it says enter your phone number...... it will list the Broadband speeds...... and under that it will list your expected speed and date available for Infinity...
I think it only lists your infinity date if they have any plans to enable your exchange... Infinity doesnt show on mine either.. Only BT Total Broadband, up to 8mb..
Mr. Strawberry
12-10-10, 11:45
doesnt even list infinity for me :/

Like with the OLD BT Broadband do you have a 40 GB per month limit ?
Like with the OLD BT Broadband do you have a 40 GB per month limit ?
No its unlimited....which we all know means fair usage policy but that state 300gb per month..
Im trying to get a definate figure, as considering going to infinity (and beyond!)
100gb's been mention, 300gb has been mentioned and someone on the chat thing said 80gb...
300gb would be fine for me :D I can probably manage 100gb on my 4mb line sometimes.
The 300gb figure is word of mouth from the Engineer that installed my Infinity.... The BT Fair usage policy states
BT Total Broadband Option 3 and BT Infinity Option 2 allow unlimited downloads and uploads within the monthly rental price, so customers on these products will not be charged for over-use. However, this does not preclude BT from reducing your speed if you are a heavy user in order to protect the experience for the rest of our customers.

Have many of you switched to BT Infinty? is it any good?
I currently live above some shops so can not get virgin fibre and i am with O2 broadband, i currently get 2meg!! So i am very interested in the infinity but i have BT broadband in the past and they are pretty crap on the whole, just wondering if the infinity service was any better?
As i live above some shops do you think i will be able to get it when they go live in my area on 31st december?(i be that date changes) They reakon i can get 20meg from the online checker so that would be awesome for what i have had to put up with for years.
I just dont want to be tied in to a long contract with bt again if the service is going to be crap but if my speeds do improve it will be worth it.
Any customer feedback would be appreciated. thanks

I had the sales call offering me it yesterday, for the same price as option3 broadband. Slight issue is that for this 12month contract they priced matched to retain me and that 'offer' of infinity would cost me £8 a month!
Hoping for the call for the office though, that's a different equation :D

BT Infinity http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/consumerProducts/images/eoi/icon_tooltip.gifFibre optic broadbandYou can get fibre optic broadband with speeds of up to 40Mb now.35.2Mb download
7.5Mb uploadNowLearn more (http://www.bt.com/infinity)
BT always give you the best speed possible on your line. The speed prediction we have given here is an estimate. The actual speed is dependent on several factors such as whether you have internal wiring, our network management policy and the number of people using the internet at the same time. Speeds can be lower in the evening at peak times. Please note that availability for BT Infinity is an estimate only when entering your postcode and house number.
I currently have BE ADSL2 24MB, really not sure if this is worth another £7 a month and tied to an 18 month contract ?
Current connection syncs at 23.5Mb and 1.3Mb up hmmmm
It's worth it for me as the upload rate is high, depends on what you do with your internet....
Im currently on o2.. get 4mb down 1mb up.... with infinity I would get 23mb down 10mb up....
So, 17.50 more for a faster package, apart from the problems that are its bt, so customer service isnt their strong point, and they are very cagey about the unlimitedness of it....
So Im tempted, but also put off by the fact that they wont tell me what I want to know... although I have found that as they said its unlimited over the phone after I asked about fair use, then they have to honour that.

you have to phone up and normally pay extra for a static if you want/need it :thumb:
with nearly every router having a built in dyndns or no-ip page, I can't see the point of static ips for the home to be honest.

Ive just moved to BT for my business and lost the static IP so now using no-ip.
For some reason only dyndns is in my router so am using the no-ip DUC client on my server.
If i set it up properly on my router would this cut the client out?

yes mate, I have accounts on both for the same reason, I don't thing I've seen a router with no-ip for some time now, they all seem to have dyndns now. I prefer to use the router as it's a right pain if the machine running the client falls off and the ip changes :(

im considerin gettin bt infinity. On the website it says u need 2 power sockets near the master socket? Why?
Ive always had the router connected to an extension cable splitter comin from the master socket. Is this ok?
Also, what kinda cable is used to connect to the pc? Is it still a normal ethernet cable?
You have two boxes with infinity one is a fibre modem the other is the home hub....the fibre comes into your house connects to the modem which connects to the hub ( for wifi) you can connect 2 normal Ethernet cables to the modem... Or a router

Does it actually need to be a power supply right next to the master socket? Currently i have my router, pc etc plugged in at a different room
I was considering it, but I can't bring myself to pull my mum and dads house to bits to run the cable... so sticking with o2 for now

that's still better then mine too :thumb:
guy at BT told me any lines can support 100MB and over but they turn it down to an average of 40MB so its stable.
he said some are this speed at first but soon get turned down
Infinity is vdsl isn't it?
Are BT being sneaky? Installing vdsl2 mini dslams but restricting you to vdsl speeds! Bah, I can probably throw a stone from my house and hit my local cabinet its that close.
No infinity but have short copper distance to the potential mini dslam :cry
Not VDSL (its not over copper twisted pair ) its FTTC (Fiber optic )

It's both.
Fibre runs from the exchange to your street cabinet where it terminates and continues on as copper cables in the form of VDSL.
Did not think they used dslams for fiber ? Thought they used fomc's ( fiber optic media convectors )

Just had the bt people round, great speeds. No more waiting for steam to download games and I hope this will stop me getting disconnected when online gaming.:)
The speeds are fluctuating abit at the moment though, I'm getting between 25Mb/s and 43Mb/s. Should calm down in a few days though.
