Considering a purchase between a corsair HX 620w Fully Modular @ £82, or an OCZ ModXstream PRO 700W @ £75.

i7 930 oced at 4Ghz, with 5850 , 6 hdds , 1 ssd.

the power is fine on both units, im thinking reliability / build design etc?

The OCZ PSU only had 6 SATA power connectors, and you need 7 so Corsair it is as it's got 8 :D

thats cool but i have splitters anyway :D

I'd go Corsair, but then im biased towards them as I've never had an issue with their units...

OCZ's RMA process has reputedly become terrible recently, taking up to a couple of months for replacement units to be sent out. Corsair's epic RMA service makes this a no-brain recommendation for the HX for me :)

Well it seems that thats the 12V power output for the units

OCZ 552W

Corsair 600W

The OCZ is mega low for a 700W unit. Although both PSU are pretty old now.

The XFX 650W or the Seasonic 620W are both better units for the same or less money.

ok thanks guys :D will probably go for the corsair because its sat on the shelf in work and it seems an ok buy :D

So your going to spend £82 on the Corsair when you could get a Seasonic or an XFX for less?

I think that's an error or something cause the 'stickers' for the 600 and 700W PSUs are identical. FAIL?

Nope.

They are just old PSU.

+1, I'd take the XFX 650w/seasonic or the Corsair HX 650w over the two the OP has mentioned.

of those 2 i would go for the Corsair, better customer support i beleive... and they are also very good units, i was running one in my machine, and am now using it in my old mans machine, and it's performing just fine :)

To throw a third in there, have you looked at the latest Antec range ?

Corsair>OCZ

Corsair + Modular >> OCZ

Pick the Corsair one!

£82 is a lot of money.

I would go for the XFX 750W that Zaim was recommending in another thread. Its really efficient (Silver/Bronze levels I believe), its 750W, fully modular and based on the Seasonic M platform.

It also received a glowing review by JonnyGuru.

That Corsair HX620 is old tech, the OCZs are mid-range PSUs - you get what you pay for IMO.

old tech, but proven over time and use by many of us ;)

Get the OCZ Fatal1ty 750w Bronze modular for 75 quid on Monday, done well in reviews.

Expensive for what it is though, the XFX is a better power supply, more efficient, less ripple and higher wattage for about the same money.

depends on where you look, some places are dumping older stock because new stuff is always being released ;)

of course, if you can get it for less than £60 I would go for it, but not for £82 ;)

I agree, I recommend the XFX 750w black edition one, much better choice

Seasonic provide the essentials of bot the Corsair and XFX so just go with which cheapest - sticking to one brand for no discernible reason is utter faggotry TBH.

I blew an antec for no apparent reason, but that would not stop me having another one

My OCZ600SXS is a bit noisy even when the system is running at light load. If you hate noise, then you should consider the Corsair because it should be less noisy.

Gunslinger
27-10-10, 08:39
Well in that case, then it gives another reason to go for the Corsair, because my HX-620W is nearly silent

wuyanxu

how reliable are Corsair HX620?

my one is nearly 4 years old, powering overclocked quad core all its life, with 8800GTX, gtx260, 5870+8800GT sucking power, also did 24/7 Folding when had nvidia cards

it's still silent, it still provides very clean and reliable power to my system. it's the best component and one out of two of the only component i hadn't changed over the years. (the other being my case)

EzyRyder

I wouldn't change it, it is still in warranty for another year I think ... and quite efficient still. But it might be worth changing it once the warranty is up, as you can sell yours own, get some money and buy a newer efficient model.
