View Full Version : 460 GTX to Radeon HD5870
Hi guys,
I have got the possibility to upgrading to a brand new HD5870 for very little money (thats if I sell my Gigabyte 460 GTX 1GB). Do you guys think its worth it or not for about £40-£50?
Thanks! :D
If 780 is as high as your 460 clocks I would give it a lot of thought but tbh I don't think you will see much real world difference on your screen other than the way the different drivers make things look.
I was 99% decided to be honest, seeing as I play at 1920 x 1200!!!
Anyone wants a Gigabyte 460 GTX 1G? :D
Well on paper the 5870 should be way better than the 460 but ATi have always been very good at disappointing me, ATi cards always turn out to be worser than I expected them to be. It's your choice do you think it would be worth the extra £50 for a very slight graphics improvement? I don't think it'll make too much difference and the 460 is awesome as it is.
I'd say wait a while for something better to come out, even if you can get the 5870 cheaper it's still not the best card, just stick with what you got and wait for better cards to come out, by then the 5870 would probably become cheaper lol. Plus their's no new game that I can't think off that the 460 can't run that I can think off.
lucid hydra motherboard + both cards = WIN

Some wise words, to be honest I just did this to compare:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/162?vs=180
And its faster, seeing as I can get a brand new one for only an extra expense I thought it might be a good idea!!! :D

Well that's your choice at the end of the day, you are getting a very good deal to be honest and the card is better but I don't think you really need a upgrade right now, I'm sure the GTX 460 is doing fine for you now, but lets face it if we see something with higher performance, or something better we always want to upgrade haha.
The upgrade isn't a bad idea at all and I'm just giving my opinion, you've got to make your choice from it :).
Or you could save that £50, sell your GTX 460 when something seriously new and awesome comes out and then use the money you have plus a little extra to buy that, then you could even end up with the most latest card for a little while but you'd need a lot of patience.
Btw I got a Q6600 too, 2.4GHz though lmfao, I can't be arsed over clocking since I can't be arsed buying new cooling equipment.
considering what motherboard you have crossfire is an option but a 5870 would be very limited but a X4 slot.
so what do you think your next motherboard will be? cheap with crossfire or expensive and sli and crossfire.
also what brand are the cards?

My 460 GTX is a Gigabyte 460 GTX OC which is quiet and got it overclocked to 780Mhz on stock volts.
I always go for mid-high end components, so not the most expensive but not middle of the road either so I will probably get the crossfire and sli option in the future.

True, you are right although my 460 GTX is bound to lose even more value in the upcoming weeks but you are right, the games I am playing at the moment run fine, although I can't max the AA out on my monitor.
You should overclock the Q6600, in fact I am thinking on moving to a all in one watercooling option and might have my Thermalright Ultra Extreme available for not much money.
I can do 3.4Ghz with my chip and that cooler :)
pro:
gains in fps
only £50
con:
already have very good card, and its a great clocker not just the chip.
MB could do with a upgrade?
hassle of selling stuff.

You've got it nailed in there! :thumb:

Oh nice one man, good luck with the water cooling. I'm still considering the overclocking, I'm going to wait for me to buy a GTX 460 first though and then start on that stuff.
Are you selling your GTX 460?
Btw are you going to have to sell your GTX 460 to the person who owns the 5870 to get it cheap or are you going to have to sell the GTX 460 to anyone?
Nope, I will be putting it for sale in the members market. Anyone interested?

How long have you had it?
Seems like it's a great card, I wouldn't think many people would want/need to sell it after having it only a few months!
