Just so you know if you buy an oem one (or one that isn't specified as "Retail") you will most likely get NOTHING with it other than the drive, no cables, no software or anything. Just as a heads up, you might want to consider buying nero essentials or similar.

thanks:) looks like a decent little program

+ think i got an extra SATA cable with the mobo luckily

Is a new SATA drive likely to be a bit more stable for dvd playback than my old IDE dvd rom drives ? Im hoping so.
The only problem ive had with my new comp ((apart from nvidia's frickin nightmare 'active armour' firewall, which installs wether you want it or not ! i eventually managed to destroy it just before i reached for the hammer)) is dvd players crashing/quiting with a 'needs to close' box, usually after a few minutes of playback,Ive tried quite a few like power dvd,win media player, klite codec pack's MPclassic player, and they all seem to have the same problem, even worse if i try to adjust anything during playback.I tried unchecking the 'enable write combining' box after reading something somewhere, and that seemed to make some difference last time i tried.
