Hi guys, im thinking of getting a new psu, it probably wont be for a few weeks whilst i save the pennies so to speak.
Im not going to say money is no object because it always is lol, but whatever it costs determines how soon i can get it.
Im looking for a 700w (ish) modular (fully modular would be nice), preferably gold certification, what can you guys recommend.
It will be powering a q6600, 4 hdd, 1 ssd, radeon 4850, dvd etc. It will be carried through my future upgrades starting with gfx card, then when money allows a new cpu/mobo probably i7, but maybe phenom x6.
Oh the pc runs pretty much 24/7 folding.

Thanks thats one suggestion, i suppose that leads to how does it compare with the Ocz/seasonic/enermax etc psu's.
I have just been looking at the enermax modu87+ and it looks good but tbh i feel its always better to get suggestions from people that have them rather than just review sites.

I belive its pretty much the same as Seasonic and im not sure about the rest.
Best you can buy are Seasonic X series. The X-750 will suit you nicely.
FYI the Corsair AX750 is based on the Seasonic one ;)

the seasonic X-650w is amazing PSU, better than the AX's , i would get that. if you really need 700+W (you don't ???? ) then get the X-750w, but please before you buy look on other sites for cheaper prices and ask gav for a price-match, £145 sounds a little steep for me :) you could get the AX though, not much difference, just the seasonic is more stable, and better efficiency (1-3%).
i go for whatever, there both excellent.
I paid £99 on an offer at another website for my X-650 which should be enough for your system as it's similar to mine.
If you have the cash then get a higher one, as you might as well instead of needing to upgrade again later
its quite a lot of difference though for 100W ... £30!!! :(

hmm.. maybe your deaf mate ? :D just kidding,
go look at competitors, a competitor is selling for £135.70 INC VAT.
ask RaWz to price match :) he'l say yes 99.9%

+1 I'd also recommend that, excellent psu
gonna be changing mine soon - the fans getting a bit noisy now. was looking at the xfx 750 black, but now they have a new line out the pro core units. but only looks like there won't be much in the prices between the two of them. the black is made by seasonic and logic says that the pro core may well be to.
decisions decisions :coffee:

Only difference is the Core isn't modular is it ?

Thats why i was looking at 700/750w, for as much futureproof as you can get in this game, although i think 1000w would be overkill.
I know i dont need that much power right now, but i am upgrading in stages and im thinking the bit that will vary least in price and what it provides over the next few months is the psu.
Then gfx card upgrade is next on the list probably from the green side, we all know how the system works, new ones come out prices drop etc.
Then for the cpu/mobo/ram, unfortunately these have to be bought together so is the biggest single expense and if i go for the latest (high middle ground) i may need more juice than a 600/650 psu can provide.

it's not, but it's virtually the same price at aria as the modular black, new item thing? i don't know. will wait for a review or 2 to hit the pages before making a decisions - the black 850 got a pretty good write up over on the hardware secrets site.
I would be surprised if you could struggle a good 650W Seasonic PSU with your computer or even if you were to get an overclocked i7 with 12GB of memory and a GTX480. Dual GTX480 then yes, you will be lacking but you would be lacking too with a 750W. I personally think the Seasonic X-650 when on offer (like when I bought it) is incredible value but if you need more go and get the AX850 as that is a decent jump.
I know that my current system didn't draw more than 420W-430W at Full Load. Even if I had SLI GTX460 I wouldn't be drawing more than 550W-600W!

I cant really see myself going for dual 480's, but would it be capable of dual 460's that is something i might look at in the future (1 folding, 1 gaming).
If so then it would have to be a real consideration.

I think the AX 750 is enough unless your going to run two 5970's or two 480s, cuz i'd get a 850w for that setup.

thanks guys, just spent the day installing the ssd and windows and i have to say my hiper has run out of power leads, i had to scrounge an old pass through molex to get it all in lol.
It really is time for the upgrade, i guess i have to start saving the pennies then.
