Hi, well. I have a situation on my hands...

I have some money to upgrade my PC...

The problem is, what do i upgrade !!!?

My Choice is out of: New Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 CPU
or a : New XFX 256mb Nvidia 8800GT Graphics Card

Which would be better for my computer in terms of gaming ?

Current PC Specs:

Intel Pentium D 950 @ 3.4ghz
2048MB OCZ Reapor 800mhz DDR2 RAM
Asus P5N-E NF650i Motherboard
Inno3D Nvidia 8600GT 256MB Graphics Card
250GB Samsung Spinpoint SATA2 Hardrive

So. What Do I Buy, The New CPU, Or The 8800GT Graphics Card !?
Which Would Give Me The Most Proformance Increase in games !?

Cheers Lads,
Figlet

why are you making a new topic about this?

Havent you already made like 2 other topics asking the same thing a while ago?

Why not just read the comments from there instead of asking again.

yes but its like the exact same question, all you really needed to do was look at your other topic and see if people said upgrade the CPU or upgrade the graphics.

But anyway im sure people will agree with me to upgrade the CPU rather than the graphics..

Both, get a 2160 cpu or something and overclock it and the 8800gt (if you can find one).

but he said he carnt afford to get both, thats why i said CPU as the graphics he has is ok and can last a few more months.

he said he couldn't affors the 6750 and the 8800gt, the 21XX series cpus start at approx £40 and when overclocked should kick his current cpu into touch.

An 8600gt card is rubbish, get a better card, games will perform better due to this than a new CPU.

Get a new CPU and keep your 8600 and live in regret when crysis plays like a slideshow. Dont' kid yourself given the choice a decent graphics card makes all the difference in games EVERY time.

New 9series coming soon mind

An 8800gt will most probably be VERY bottlenecked by your current cpu hence why i suggested a 2000 series c2d.

The cheapest 8800gt i have found (sadly not at Aria) is £140 inc vat add to that a 2140 at approx £40 and i think that would be a nice upgrade

Nope they are pretty much out of stock everywhere.

Why should i get The 2160 when i have the same but at a 3.4ghz !?

The Cache is the same, and the FSB is the same. Its just that the 2160 is 1.8ghz if im not wrong, and mine is 3.4ghz...

Sound silly to me :|
.. anyway, i would only upgrade to a Core 2 Duo, not another Pentium D!

Would it be a good idea if i got an 8800GT and a Core 2 Duo E4500 ?
Would i notice a difference in an 4500 2.2ghz from my Pentium D 950 3.4ghz ?

I would be pushing my Budget real tight.
If i upgraded just one, it would probley be the graphics card now...

O, and thanks for all your replies !

P4 are far slower than a C2d. For comparison a 2.2ghz E4500 will equal a 4.9ghz P4, so you see the flaw in your comparison? Clock a E2160 to 2.4 and youve already beaten your P4. and also the E2160 is such a fast oc it can beat the E6750 when oced to about 3/3.2 Its worth the money, i got a E4500 because of cheapness reasons and an abundance of money when i got mine and i could overclock it easy.

So.... Would it be a good upgrade if i got:

A XFX 8800GT 256MB and a C2D E4500?

That would be replacing my Pentium D 950 3.4ghz and my 8600gt ?

If you can afford, yes

Either way pentium D are hardly diff tbh.

Get a non stock cooler if you like a case that dont rattle and whine. Also, with a non stock you will get a lovely 3ghz oc easy.

Atm just after a 1 hour play of cs my temps are back to normal ish, at 25 30. On stock at 2.6ghz a very small oc. Thats not different from normal.

Using tat they top off at 50 on my stock, on 100% load

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/mac124/smilies/banghead.gif It is a c2d in every way apart from name, at the same speed it would annihilate the cpu you have now even at its lower stock speed it will be "faster". Overclock it and you will be laughing.

If you can afford it get a 4000 series, i was only trying to suggest another, better imho, option.
