Hi, my 5 year old JBL power series P953 6X9 rear speakers have decided to die on me, one sounds like its running in a bath full of water. The tweeters work but main speaker is knackered
I've swapped cables from the other speaker and checked the amp signal, so definately seems that the speaker has blown. Any suggstions on a reasonable replacement.
I've looked at halfords of all places and they have two that are supposedly half price.
Vibe 6"x9" 140W RMS 420W Max (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_50 8433_langId_-1_categoryId_165707) 2 Way £39.99
Infinity 6"x9" 100W RMS 300W Max (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_72 4261_langId_-1_categoryId_165707) 3 Way £39.99
Any ideas, the Vibes seems to get decent reviews.
I have a 12" FLi Sub in the boot anyway so maximum bass from the 6x9's isnt a requirement.
The rear 6x9 and 12" Fli are powered from a JBL 320Watt 4 Channel amp.
both nice speakers hard to say what one is the best i had infinity before very nice crisp sound vibe are more punchy better build to , doesn't your head unit provide enough power for the speakers alone? i blew my 6x9s up with them connected to an amp my sony head unit provided 50w on each channel more then enough for 100W speakers.

Well I got the Vibe 6x9's tonite. In stock at my local Halfrauds
Nice chunky speakers and sound much better a fair bit of bass as well.
Minimum input is 70w RMS, so I dont think these would run so well from a 50watt Headunit which has an RMS of probably 20w.
A few pictures of the install, where my cat very helpfully decided to supvervise the installation.

Pictures showing the reinforced DIY stealth shelf, some 10mm ply bolted to the stock Peugeot rear shelf and covered in accoustic cloth makes it look stock and less chance of being nicked.

I couldn't help but laugh at your cat, mine does the same thing, every box he's got to get in LOL.
I'm hoping to put an install in my car soon-ish but its working out where I want the cables etc and whether to amp the front and rear speakers also, decisions decisions eh. What do you think of the sound from the vibes then, better than your previous speakers?

Seriousley if youve got a sub in the boot down bother with 6X9's bud the pressure in the boot from the sub blows them thats why your previouse ones have blown, Plus 80% of sound comes from the front so spend good money on some JBL's for the front and then if you feel the need the add soem to the back but use 6X9 Enclosures if your going to do that and you will get a better sound from a Enclosed 6X9 set up aswell as they wont blow becaouse of your sub
you may find this usefull , But also nice job on the rear shelf

Spot on... the amount of people I tell this too is unreal.

Haha 9\10 of them are 18year olds wanting more boom for their buck lol but I learnt those statistics from my short time in an audio shop as well as a JL conference with the head of JL sales

Does it normally take 5 years to blow ?. I've had the Sub and 6x9s for 5 years >?
I've got JBL GTO-627 in front doors cost me £18 in January sale this year Sony XSA1327 in the rear doors cost £9 Halfords January Sale
Vibe 6x9 in the parcel shelf £39.99 Halfords this last week.
12" Fli passive sub in the boot..
Cheapo JBL CS60.4 4 channel 320W Amp.. powering sub and 6x9's
Sony MEX-DV1000 Super Divx /Audio CD Headunit
Maybe an enclosure round the 6x9s is my next project. After I get the Xbox 360 computer done

Yeah an enclosure round the 6x9s are good is the amp a single chnl if so that won't be helping as you'll be sending the same signal through both items, also is spend about 50 on the fronts and buy an independent amp say a 4 chnl to run the front and the 6x9s don't bother with the rear doors is say don't bother with the 6x9s swell but there already fitted,
