I thought it might be a better idea to make a new thread and stickify it for pics of your shiney pc's rather than have to sift through loads of different posts. Just pics and a specs please and thats it.
If you want to create a thread taking us through your entire build please do so but start a new thread, once the build is complete post a pic or two of the finished article in here.
My gaming pc (specs as per sig)

Audio cable = #7266
Looks good fitted in like that, how is it supported underneeth? shelf?
yea iv always liked the idea of them like that, looks nice and tidy that way.
Nah the cable i need is for the front panel. Goes onto the headers on the MB
Yes its supported by a shelf. Its a corner desk so still got loads of room under there.
It took me all day to take the desk apart and move the shelf down as i made it so well in the first place.
Its a prefect fit with enough room in the top for the fan vent and also underneath for my mini sub:mrgreen:

You've inspried me to get some beech and make a desk aswell :)
Its an MFI desk...But a quality one. I made it very sturdy and have a draw unit next to it...Like a mini office...
I like that idea too. And I think thats the same case I just bought off Mac too - looks good in a desk.. hehe :D
Certainly looks like a Lian Li pc7?
PC60 Plus i think. Got it a few years agao. The Lian-Li range look the best of them all i think:mrgreen:

That ocz fan is facing the wrong way, u will lose upto 5degrees of heat if you reset it so that it pulls air from ram and it gets drawn out the back....

I don't know if its real or not :S
Lol. Its a SanSun case based on a Silverstone TJ06 (http://www.silverstonetek.com/images/products/tj06/tj06-v5.jpg) chassis. BTX style, .9mm steel, 5x front drive bays, 6x HDD and functional windtunnel. The windtunnel effectively gives the CPU section its own cool zone. Theres an additional 80mm fan above the front mounted 120mm for case ventilation. There is also a bottom mounted 80mm fan on the PSU that draws air across the HDD bay and exhausts it via the rear 80mm.
Seems to work fine. My old A64 o/c'd to 2.73ghz. idles at 32*c and stays within 45*c under load
As soon as I get settled in to my new house I will post pics of my setup when everything is in my Aurora :)

PSUs mounted in the bottom of the case mean you have a vent in the bottom of the case, so cooler air is drawn directly into the PSU, and any hot air is chucked straight out the back. Makes sense, and a small but noticable difference to temps. Of course, if you have your PC on carpet, that plan is a bit buggered, coz the dust will cake up the PSU so fast you'll be getting the hoover back out the minute you put it back in it's cupboard!
My little beast..

That's the case i want!
Gotta love that Sugo. Really nice SFF chassis. Out of interest, what CPU cooler are you using?
Believe it or not, I'm still on stock cooling. The entire case is well ventilated and is in a fairly cool room. Idle temp is about 40-50'c on average, on 1.3 volts. Gets up to the 60's during heavy use (Gaming, etc). I can't say that high temps irk me to be honest, as long as it stays in non-burnout territory.
But yeah, the main reason I'm still on stock is because the Intel reference cooler is damn good, very quiet and fits nicely in the case. I can't find a replacement that will fit comfortable, operate quietely and not require me to remove my entire motherboard to fit.
If anyone knows of any that'd be cool. :P
Only a few regular posters showing off there pc's, c'mon guys get your systems up.

I just wished they offered the Mesh and Window option when I bought mine, I am sure that the Window version would be less of a dust trap...

the aurora cooling is very poor :(

28-04-08, 12:00
I wouldnt say poor overall, it is just poor for the HDDs.
My other two cases cool the HDDs a lot better, but are both cramped compared to the Aurora.
but are both cramped compared to the Aurora.
Aurora - Not cramped?!?!?!
28739 FTW!!!
wonderlust
28-04-08, 12:07
I didn't say it wasn't cramped!
I said my other cases were more cramped!
Both the other cases,
An Antec Atlas (which is sold by antec as a server case anyway) and a ThermalRock Eclipse, both have to have at least one drive removed to fit a, by modern standards, normal length graphics card IE 6800GT, or 8800GT, where as the Aurora will take any of those cards without issue.
thermaltake mozart Tx if u want room :)
wonderlust
28-04-08, 13:55
Thermaltakes cases are not bad, (ThermalRock is owned by them).
But having had an Aurora I would want something that has at least as good cable organisation.
I Like the clean look, I promotes better air flow too IMHO.
Sata was one of the best things to happen in that regard.
Usb memory sticks is another, enabling me, and many others, to do away with the floppy drive. (I have an Integral 256Mb one that even shows up as a Floppy drive!)
the mozart tx is a huge case plenty room inside

Isn't that the one that takes a secondary uAtx board?
Way too big for me!
for a midtower i think you would hard pushed to beat mine, it has great cable mangement and the air flow is as good as it gets.

Excellnt WC setup that is!
Amazing paintjob too, what did you use?
thats nice that man, 2 triple rads  if i was being ultra critical i would say you need to paint the insides of the case but thats not a small job in itself i know i think mine needs doing too.
i was also toying with the idea of wc but decided (well i say that, xmas took a while to pay off so...it kind of went out the window) to go as big on air as i could, glad now in a way as i dont think these new 45nm chips warrent it. even more so if its true what they are saying about higher volts causing e.m. in them as you run out of volts to use well before temps are an issue.
which g92's have you sli'd? im guessing gt as 2 gts should sail past 20k with a quad around your superpi clock.
naa, they are GTS 512's, i can only bench a quad at 3.9 on this crappy board, stale at 3.6.
My superpi clock of 4.2 was with 2 cores disabled, it's the northbridge, it can't handle it...
Excellnt WC setup that is!
Amazing paintjob too, what did you use?
i'm not that skilled! got a guy who has his own spraying company to do it for me, pretty simple job compared to some of the stuff he's done, he really is a natural, only 19 years old or something like that.

I bought a 2nd hand Silverstone TJ05 case to move my system to, from the 3d Aurora, but I could not get the cabling tidy enough so I went back to the 3D aurora!

Don't forget some cables (IE Floppy cable) can be run under the motherboard for the cleaner look.
My floppy drive will be going, and i'm going to replace my DVD-RW (black, IDE) with a silver SATA drive :)

My main box has no floppy drive, picked up a cheap usb one which i use when required.
Sata Optical drives is the right way to go... so much less cable clutter.
Also my removable drive caddy will be gone so just a dvd and a card reader :D might even try to do it tonight.

what was hipers CS like? they have a 3yr warranty on them
i swapped it thru the shop i bought it from, i think i only had it 2 weeks tops, they tried it there and then whilst i was in the shop and the guy who served me said about 80% of those they had sold came back dead.
as you can imagine i didnt get a swap but decided to take my money elsewhere.
Hrmm, gonna steer clear of those then, although they probably had a very bad batch, it doesn't make much of their QA department!
we all make mistakes m8 as nobody is perfect and all can have an off day at work.
i must say tho this was the end of 06/early 07 so it should not put you of buying 1 today.
when i got my p5nesli (at the same time) loads of other people had some major issues with theirs but i was lucky with mine.
Any Power Supply can fail. I've had an Enermax fail, I've had an Antec fail, I've had a Tagan fail, I know someone who's Seasonic + Corsair has failed. It's the nature of Power Supplies. It's not an if, it's a when. The difference is that very rarely will any of these kill components when they die. I've known a few people from a competitor's forum who's had Hipers implode and have a motherboard and some other components go pop with it. It's not that all of them are like that but when you consider that it might be more likely to happen with this brand and there's lots of choice in the price range, you might want to consider something else. As mentioned, this was a while ago.

Tadaaa. My desk is a messy as it should be.
Now heres the cost.
My computer on the right was 550, the one on the left, a bit older and 400. The monitors were together 200 pounds, I got it at quite the discount, always good to have connections hehe. The desk I took from a former college as they throw everything out each...season, same for the chairs, and the rack (the thing at in the middle with the multitracker on it, hard to see).
Great stuff lol
By the way mul, as correct as you are, I'm happy to say for the last 9 years, no power supply has ever failed on me, and one I was using till... a few weeks ago :o
A very nice setup indeed.
Totally see where you're coming from and I suppose my post implies that everyone will be as unlucky. Was just stating that regardless of time, power supplies will fail.
Well I said I'd get some on, here you go guys!

they do look very nice! considering one for my future system. How many fans and of what size do they take? any top blowhole fan a la antec 900?
they come with 3, 12cm coolermaster fans which i found a bit noisy so replaced them u can fit 1 to bottom of the case, 1 at back, 2 at the top and 2 on the standard side panel if u get the window panel u lose 1 fan
top fans can be 14cm think the others are all 12cm

yeah it overclocks, very well :D but it has a faulty temperature sensor, 1 core shows 28 degrees the other 42!
Possibly, but it's most likely a poor IHS mount or a poor under IHS thermal gunk application to be honest. This was very common and I actually had a 5c idle difference with my opteron I think.

30-07-08, 18:34
I thought it was me not getting the cooler mounted quite right to start with but remounting it at 90 degree angles made no difference.
The highest core gets no hotter even when overclocked so I think it may just be a faulty sensor.
Eitherway it will be off to a new home shortly, I hope...

I always thought the 900 looked better with both fans at the bottom and drives at the top. But each to their own. The storage tray on top is ever so handy :)
fan at bottom blows across the hard drives and top fan blows direct at the cpu..side fan blows direct at vid card ;)
Or get a 1200 like me and have a fan for everything :p

Although ice-cream cooling is the way forward. I think vanilla would provide optimum cooling but that's not to rule out double chocolate.

and yes and no on the 6 pin connectors ;) I have just retidied up the case and wiring so the card had just been reinstalled :)
And the GTX has about 1-2mm spare when installing it!
i suppose the downside of having side mounting HDD's which I think is rather tidy and looks good, is you lose the option to invade some of the space with a long gfx card if needed. Imagine if the gfx card had the PCI-e on the end like a lot used to! LOL
I may kit my case out with all orange nexus's some time in the near future. Currently got rear 120 coolermaster and top 120 zalman 2000 spin's with fan controller turning them down and a front 120 coolermaster.
Might have 2x 120's on top, 2 on rear, 1 on side and 2 front intake. LOL
you reckon they'd be noisy is I went all orange nexus?

It would have gone back on the distance selling regs and I would still be using my 8800GT ;)
you want to keep an eye on the temps with that wonder, nv design their cards to pull most of the air in from that end so it comes in cool over the power regs and if you have an sli setup the 2nd card doesnt block the fan like they did on the older design.
looks nice tho :)

The new power supply, much better than the ye olde 500W StealthXStream and for the same price. (600W ModXStream is silent!)

Large 140mm fan on the PSU and rear 120mm Coolermaster fan! Keeps idle CPU temps down to 21C (in a room thats 20C).

Just thought I should add in this pic for the sheer coolness factor :p
FEEL FREE TO COMMENT!
Looking good, get yourself something like a freezer pro 64 and give that cpu a mild overclock.
BTW what you using to measure temps? 1c above ambient? I think not ;). Check it with coretemp or everest. I would take the temps given by Asus probe with a pinch of salt tbh.
I use AOD and Speedfan for temps :)
I can OC to 3.2GHz and can't get above that though :( then CPU is fine at 3.2GHz on 1.35v (stock) then 3.3GHz+ just isn't stable and any number of volts :p
3.4GHz won't boot into windows :( (goes BSOD when windows is loading)
Temp pin3 is always showing 22C it never changes :\
Nice build Will. As mac says, get yourself a freezer 7 pro :)
Nestled in behind my new Sapphire 4890 :)

One more for kicks

I don't think they'll be much point in a new cooler, as my overclocks can't get past 3.2GHz

what have you got the ram set at? and the HT set at?
RAM is at 800MHz and HT is at 2000MHz, I have tried it at 1800MHz and still no difference.

those are the settings before or after the overclock?
is that chip a black edition or are you just overclocking by changing the HT frequency?

Its 2000mhz by default and to try and help the OC i lowered it to 1800MHz.
My core peaks at 50C (fans not even on 100%) but temp pin 1 peaks at 57C:S what is that getting so hot?
Yes my Phenom II 720 is black edition.

Ok so have you tried to drop the mutli and increase the HT frequency?
Nope, but I don't think thats my problem. Everybody else can reach say 3.6-4GHz I am stuck at 3.2GHz :( they have stock coolers @ 3.5GHz and still on stock volts :| all they do is raise the multi.

Overclocking is all about luck of the draw.
But other things can and do influence it.
Motherboard/Ram and PSU quality to name a few.
Sounds like you have been unlucky and got a chip that is not so good...
although it may overclock better in a few days/weeks after it settles in.

Hmmm, well I'm sure 3 cores @ 3.2GHz will be more than enough power to handle a GTX285 (for example). You would need a dual core to run at 4.8GHz for similar power :p

I wouldn't get involved in that debate if I were you....

had issues overclocking with just the multi....
Could be memory, try dropping the multiplier for the memory then try for more.
Will so you running on board GFX at the mo?
waiting for funds?
Im running a 8400 =] and still can't overclock :p
is your name also shedlife?
