if your running dual screen try the program - display fusion as it allows you to have differient wallpapers on each or helps stretch etc pics for multiple displays.

I use UltraMon in work. Costs around $15 to register it but definately a worthwhile program...better than all the free stuff I tried.
So handy having things remember which monitor to open on.

You may have noticed it also includes a black interior amongst some other refinements over the standard (and now discontinued) P182. The SE was a limited run of 5000 IIRC, I think you'll find few cases so distinctive, and even fewer as pristine as mine. :D

oooo i like tha black interior on that special edition (dont like the chrome exterior though, much prefer the gun metal)
Question for you .... that corsair H50, you got it pulling air into the case or out ?
SATA cables, well i've got 2 different Pxxx case builds with pics here,
here's mine, in a P193 case
http://forums.aria.co.uk/showpost.php?p=203957&postcount=648
and my dad's in a P182 case (that will be getting a P193 front shortly :P)
http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread.php?t=19613
The black is nice. I've had the case a while and when I first got it black internals weren't as common as they are now. The mirror exterior I really like, but I can see why not everyone would! You really have to be careful not to scratch it too.
I've tried the H50 in both positions, but didn't really notice much difference. At the moment it's exhausting to preserve the natural airflow direction in the case. I would have like to mount it at the front but the pipes aren't long enough unfortunately. Still, the temps I'm getting are very impressive, so can't complain. The stock fan is loud though, so using the Yate Loons on it atm, but they lack the static pressure and airflow the rad probably needs.
I see you're using 90 degrees and you've removed the lower bay fan too. It really gets in the way, I can see why they revised it.

I have sorted my cables out a bit better now, you can see i was using an IDE for one of my drives that cable by it self looks bad  so that's gone
i have also removed the lower fan chamber metal mount (pure pain) and done all my cables again
but I have to agree its not easy in this case.
the case isnt close to the wall its about 4" away i have replaced all my fans with Noctua ones and run them at 900rpm and temps are fine

Edit i agree the black is nice

26-05-10, 16:42
yeah, my thoughts exactly, they say the thing works better drawing air in, but personally i think it will screw up the natural order of things inside the case.... i was only asking because i think i will get one of those for my P193 case, and look to mount it to the rear 140 fan and have that draw through it and out, but i have a couple of options i think, I would not want it in the front forcing warm air across the motherboard.... but wondered if you'd gone for it in at the back, in at the front and faster out at the top, to maintain the upward flow of hot air, but whilst still proving clean aor from te front to cool the board.
Try looking at the scythe gentle typhoon range, i think those can supply enough for a RAD and are fairly quiet, just be aware of the large motor diameter, because it might cause a hot spot on the radiator.
shiny case = fingerprints, scratches, shows up dust too easy, reflects light back at me if sat near by .... nah, gimmie the gunmetal one any day :P
ahhhhhh your looking at the P193 there, ok, yes, on that motherboard the only sensible option was 90 degree plugs to stay away from the GPU card, and it also put them in a handy direction to go through that middle hole (which incidentally has a nissan micra door wiring rubber grommet in it, rather than just the gaping hole antec left :() ... also through that hole is the SCSI U320 cable.
On the 182 case i did like you have, and utilised the rear space so i dont need those access holes
That lower fan support is a pain in the *** (i agree with Sniperdude) it totally f**ks the airflow, and not needed on the 193, they modded the case to take a fan at the front, which is where i have one, so that one is either for a second fan (pointless) or is surplus to requirements, basically they got lazy, i might look to remove that later and replace it with 2 round vertical supports.
I too have an IDE drive in there (750GB) but only because i ran out of SATA sockets :P (there are 6 internal drives in that P193) and your right it makes it hard, it's even harder with a floppy drive AND 3 DVD drives
If i can get a hold of a QX9770 chip, i'll be switching the P193 to the same ASUS motherboard as the P182 of my dad's and then will lose the IDE HDD in favour of a SSD and will have to re-cable most of the case :( ..... that'll teach me to build dad a PC 3 times faster than my own ... havent even powered the P193 cased one up yet !

they had in mind their "quiet" range of PSU's some of which where fanless, so the idea was to have one fan kill 2 birds as it were, was an ok ish idea, they just scrimped too much and made the case too short, hence my switch to the P193, there, they saw what the case modders were doing, in regards to fitting a fan up front of the drives and thought doh! we should have done that, so they did in the P193, they just got lazy on making a new support for the separator panel between the 2 zones, they also fudged the sealing to the side panels.... all in all the P193 quality control and design team need firing if you ask me, way too many little things they just screwed up, and the bean counters need their nuts putting in a vice

I think I'm going to remove the bottom chamber fan then. I've actually also removed all the plastics between the two chambers now, as well as the plastics for the top HDD cage as I don't use it. I think that cleans the air flow up a little, plus when I go crossfire it should let the bottom card breathe a little better.
As for mounting the H50 at the top, not possible as the board is too close to the top of the case, and the mobo power connector on the board gets in the way. I would have done it that way otherwise I think. I'm thinking about getting a Kama Bay or similar for another front intake, I'll just have to ditch the DVD-RW drive (don't use it much nowadays) for an external model.
I think with that in place, the case should be good for quite a few years to come. That's the plan at least.

to get the metal mount out i cut the rivets from the bottom of the case with sharp wire cutters the top ones are harder to get at but cutting and bending the fan support alittle
was better than drilling the rivets out i thought and it worked fine

very true, as i use that bay for drives i'm kind of stuck there regarding goofing the airflow a bit, so i've gone for the brute force method and fitted the largest Gentle Typhoon in the front :P and left one 5.25" bay open for the CPU cooler to draw through.
As for mounting the H50 at the top, not possible as the board is too close to the top of the case, and the mobo power connector on the board gets in the way. I would have done it that way otherwise I think. Plextor PX-755UF is an excellent external unit (i have 2) but are hard to find now as they are discontinued.
The space available does concern me too, although i am hoping that because i have 140mm fans up top in the P193, and a theoretical choice of 2, that i might just avoid that issue
I think with that in place, the case should be good for quite a few years to come. That's the plan at least.
be careful of 5.25" intake units, i've tried a couple of them and have found them to be either useless or create more noise than a hair dryer ! which is why i opted to leave one bay open, if you can get one that covers a couple of bays (not familiar with the one you mentioned) then it should be a little quieter
all the same what ever way you do it watch where the bits are going
:thumb: will do
The Kama bay I was referring to is mounted vertically, so takes up 3x 5.25 bays. Basically adds another regular intake fan. Lian Li do something similar with hard drive mounts. I forgot that there was a horizontal kama bay thing too, I just plan to get the 3 x5.25 version and hook the fan up to my fan controller, so noise shouldn't be a problem. Saying all this, temperatures are fine right now, I'll just have to see how much crossfire (2x5770) heats up the case.

i'd imagine that will depend heavily on the ones you get and the cooler design on them
Already got one, it's a V1 reference card, so exhaust cooler. I guess the second will match as long as I can get one for a decent price.
well hopefully when this is finished i wont feel i need to do more and only upgrade when needed :P

Sean - What fans have you got in yours then? The standard fans arent pants really, just very silent..
Ive added another 120mm intake, and then 2 140mm on the roof and one in the side panel, all Fractal design Ones.
Took the front door off earlier, as I scratched it, so Its getting modded when a few bits arrive, it definitely does a good job of silencing it though.

I'm really not keen on the new nvidia GPUs. They're far too power hungry!
That's the reason why I still haven't got a new nVidia card (even though I know ATi/AMD is better value for money).
Cards are just too hot and too power in-efficient.
I'm looking forward to seeing what a few respins will do in the future since I believe the Fermi architecture is a great design with the ability to really put out some impressive power.
I'm hoping we don't have to wait until they shrink the die to see impressive gains since shrinking the die will come at least 18months away.

Fermi was supposed to be 32nm, but they built it on the 40nm architecture for whatever reason. that's why its so hot now.

Yup.. originally came with my 486 AST box waaay back when that was 'new' :D
I tend to go through about 2 keyboards a year if they're cheap.. but really like Dell softkey keyboards.. bought 2 recently to replace the 2nd hand one that had got a bit rattly in the first pic :)

they are the ones HP gave to our school with their PCs :D
Brilliant cheap keyboards IMO. Cost me ~£30 for 2 :)
The rattly one came with the Dell now being used as my dev web server.. whole thing with 17" CRT came to a whopping 40 quid :D

Ian

I'm known for bad cable management ;)
as for ExpressGate, i've never bothered trying, it's 300Mb right, and i usually turn my pc on to do something more than check my email.
i'll give it a go though, just for you ;)
EDIT:
i'll tell you tomorrow...

you know what, i made a big reply to this, and opera crashed and i lost the lot, i am getting seriously ****ed off with this http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/ghost_industries/throw.gif
basically, in a nutshell....
1. Be very careful you are getting the right ExpressGate... there are 2, one is SSD version for onboard hard mounted flash memory, the other is installed on your hard drive (referred to as the "Lite" version by many)
2. Their ftp server is http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/ghost_industries/56kpowwa-1.gif
3. That version your grabbing is out of date LOL
what motherboard is it, and i'll find you the right files ;)
here's 2 ftp links, the files DO differ ;)
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/
you don't need to do it just for me, i was just curious - i probably wont use mine that much, dad might use the one on his... but the way i see it, i've paid for that feature, i at least want to explore it, but there have been many problems with it 9it is basically SPlashTop which is Linux based... funny that this version will onyl run on a windows based machine  ... some geeks have worked out how to make it run on Linux, and even off a regular flash drive)

hmm. interesting.
well i clicked the download link from my motherboard's download page...
by SSD, do you mean a Solid State Drive..
or i don't actually have to have get anything extra..?
I have a Asus P7P55D in case you were interested :D

killl that download, you've grabbed an older version.
from what i can tell you have the "ExpressGate" or "ExpressGate Lite" version, that is installed on the harddrive, for that i think there is a newer file, and i have it because i downloaded the wrong one the other day .... lol
I can upload that to Rapidshare or Hotfile if you want ? (and if you need i can pm you the RS link so you can grab it like a premium member rather than free)
let me just go find you some images, in the mean time, go look at the "Premium version of your motherboard, and look att he express gate description in that page...

ok, you gonna give up ? .... no problem, it might be for the best, because there is this little gem of information..
ExpressGate does not work if you have AHCI or RAID enabled in the bios for the chipset....
this i think will be more relevant for your version than the SSD version, because for one, i have the SSD version running with AHCI mode enabled on BOTH onboard controller chipsets, but i have seen a number of posts about it not working, and for two, the geeks on one forum hacked it and got it running on a regular USB drive, so no restriction there in relation to the AHCI mode setting
That said, the manual for my motherboard has this warning too, and it is working fine for me, so either they upgraded/updated something in it, or it only refers to the new lite version that is installed on the OS drive
but to complete the information, and i am determined to post this as my browser has crashed 3 times while writing this, and i'm now doing it in notepad before posting !
ExpressGate is basically SplashTop Linux environment branded and tweaked a little for ASUS, and SplashTop v2 is coming soon that will have a lot more features
1. if you look at the premium version of your board, at This Page (http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=kvkzMAsYAaWQ0z8M) you will see the difference in the description.
2, here are some ftp links, the files on them do differ, and the naming convention is not consistant, i think the version you need is "ASUS_ExpressGate_151711_XPVISTAWIN7.zip" that appears to be the installer type, it is certainly not the type i need for mine which is the onboard flash memory (SSD) type.
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/
3. here is an image to look at, see the do-hicky below the last PCIe 16x slot ? ... well that is the ExpressGate SSD ... it is basically a bare pen/flash drive, soldered directly to a USB header
If you have one of these, then you need the updater tool installed and then the dfi file to update ExpressGate, very much like updating BIOS from inside windows, if not, then you have the Lite Version and it installes on the OS drive, and you need to get the installer version, like youe were, just get the latest version
http://www.ixbt.com/mainboard/asus/p7p55d-e-premium/board-rear.jpg
EDIT:
Interesting to note ASUS going back to fitting ps2 mouse and keyboard sockets, unlike their last boards that had only ps2 keyboard ... but strange they dont use a combined socket like they have in the past as well
more pics of SSD version (different motherboards - better pics !)
http://www.ixbt.com/mainboard/asus/p5q-deluxe/express-gate.jpg
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/1718/p5qdlx16lx6.jpg
this one shows that you must use a certain SATA socket for the drive containing the ExpressGate install, and also the location of the SSD version on other versions of the same board
