Just need to get me a shiny new GPU to go in there :)
Roll on the GTX660TI or what ever they call it... so that the prices drop on the GTX560TI or even a nice 2GB 7850 (my budget at the mo is around the £130 mark)

Nice looking rig wonderlust, i love my 690 II lite and much prefer the gromits on the cable management holes that mine has even if they are not the greatest but you still did a good job with yours and the only bad point is that USB 3 cable which you can't do much about.

Ahh hoping for the same thing as me, i do like my GTX460 which still does and good job but just want something a but speedier and the next step up for me is a 560Ti.

was playing with the off camera flash, using it to highlight the details and make the unimportant parts darker.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/wuyanxu/Other_all/9752f7d1.jpg
Bokeh! at f/3.2 (photography speak for blur effect) could do as low as f/1.8, but that will mean only the LED is in focus, i wanted both power switches to be in focus.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/wuyanxu/Other_all/71f152c4.jpg
the light makes GPU seem a bit dusty. it's not that bad really.

What happened to your mobo heatsink in the last picture?
says GIG BYTE lol :P
it's a new brand, haven't you heard? :p
Hooray for off camera flash :D First pic looks great :thumb:
What are you using to trigger it? Any modifiers on it too?
it's in slave mode, triggered by my on camera flash. on camera is at lowest possible setting. no modifier, only got the builtin defuser down. it's a relatively cheap Nissin 622 Mk2.
really need TTL to make flash less of a guess work.
Cool, cheap flashes are often the best for off camera work :) I use Yongnuo triggers for one flash and optical slave for the rest, works well ;) You should get a pair, they're only £30 :D
I always use manual for off camera flashes (mainly cause I don't have expensive ettl triggers but also because I want settings to remain fixed) Easiest way is to start off at 1/4 power and adjust from there. Lower than full power is always good coz you can shoot bursts before it pauses to recharge and the lower durations aid in freezing motion. Bear in mind the inverse square law on how fast light falls off with distance, so you can control power by moving the flash closer or further away.
The built in flash diffuser will only affect the spread of the light btw, not how hard or soft it is. For nice soft light you want to bounce it off something large and preferably white, or even better use a shoot through umbrella or softbox. Just anything to make the relative size of the light source large as that's the only thing that affects the hardness of light really.
Anyway, I'm pushing this way off topic, I'll shut up haha :D
p.s. You can PM me if you want help with flash stuff coz I do it all the time :)

So having already posted a internals pic of my system i decided to get a pic of the back side having got my SSD yesterday though as i got the 690II lite there is no out the box SSD mounting that i could see so decided to mount it round the back with Velcro squares.
Yes it may be messy but to be honest it was taking me long enough to install stuff and work out a plan for cables on the front that i decided the back wasn't that important for now.

Don't mind the 8pins swirling around the res, the cables provided by Enermax are just not long enough. So 1st and 3rd picture are pretty much a true reflection of how it is now.
Getting there, waiting on some parts to arrive and put in before I can call it finished but here it is so far.

Probably best not to linger here too long then, you'll end up with 2 and a huge overdaft :)
Probably best not to linger here too long then, you'll end up with 2 and a huge overdaft :)
Well that is a bit of a problem as I have a Danger Den DD 21 extended and custom made case and there's a problem with that as its custom I could fit in 10 hard drives (one of my requirements) but not only that, I have two of them to fill.. It could get very expensive and believe me, my overdraft wouldn't cover the next main gaming PC I'd like!! I have an idea in my head what I'd like to get but its just finding the right parts to do the right job I'd like...
I'm very must interested in the 670/680 but the different in price puts me off the 680 as you could get a 4Gb version for the same as a normal 680.. But then also I could consider a 1Ghz model 7970 with 3Gb and have plenty of ram unless I start using my 3 30" screens again as the ram usage on that managed to peak at around 2800Mb!!
Did a bit of modding earlier, couldn't fit a push/pull setup on my 620 with the side fan, so had to move it!

Turn them around bud, you'll get better temperatures.

That is how it looks to me, based on how I visualise the blades facing.
They both look like intakes to me, or they might spin the other way and both be exhausts.
Either way, they look the same way around to me.

Wouldn't that effect it's ability to cool? Or do you guys use some special paint?

What radiator are you planning on going with?? I seem to have stuck with nothing but Thermochill rads but the PA series. I have 4 quad rads of those and a single triple at the moment. I do use 2 triple EK rads for my motherboard cooling but I didn't think I needed a lot of cooling for that :)

Haha, I certainly can't claim to be the first to do something like this (i've seen it done a million and 1 times before), but there's something about the side profile of a stack of 5.25" drive bays that I find completely garish so I like to cover them whenever I can.:p
That looks astonishing, where'd you get that stuff? Its the Carbon fibre stuff isn't it?
It's just a piece of black acrylic cut to shape and covered with carbon fiber effect vinyl, there's another piece covering the floor of the case so the only bit of bare aluminum that can be seen is around the rear of the case (where the PCI slots and mobo IO is). I couldn't be arsed to send the case to be painted or powdercoated so it was a cheap and easy alternative stop the inside of the case being all shiny and bare.:thumb:
What radiator are you planning on going with?? I seem to have stuck with nothing but Thermochill rads but the PA series. I have 4 quad rads of those and a single triple at the moment. I do use 2 triple EK rads for my motherboard cooling but I didn't think I needed a lot of cooling for that :)
I was a big time user of PA TC rad's aswell (in the old days of awkward 25mm fan spacing, had 2 triples in a Mountain Mods cooling a QX6850 and a 9800GX2 back in 2008), I can't justify the price hike of the TA series over the like of EK and XSPC now though. I'll be incorporating a drain line into my upcoming build, so at the minute an EK 480 CoolStream XTX is on the shopping list because it has an additional port on the bottom... but if XSPC release a quad version of their crossflow rad i'll be all over that.

What are temps and noise like?
Honestly, if EVGA bothered to make a good non-reference card that looked as good as their reference ones they'd make a fortune :p
been busy with work so i haven't had a real chance to play games yet but at idle it is in audible :)
this is non ref, the PCB is custom the heatsink is custom (uses vapor chamber) and the plastic/metal around the card is also non ref :)

I must admit I'm deeply disappointed with the TA series and the fact that they aren't as good as the PA series, I'm just sticking with the 4 quads I have and not worrying about buying another rad ever again!
I would say that the PA series are still very good but I think there are better models out there now...

Yeah man, Ikea dinner table as computer desk ftw :D
So that's where you do all the moaning from!
i hate ikea, they do some funky stuff the swedes tho, nice desk greg but you want to change your case about a little to get the best out of it. lifting the case up and putting another fan in the bottom being the first thing so you can get more cool air in the bottom for those gpu and to give the psu plenty of space for airflow too. you want 50mm under the base and the 20 odd mm you get from the stock feet isnt enough.
get a woman too, she will clean the dust filters for you :D (and make you moan less) :P

How much storage will it have Mr Strawberry?? :)
Mr. Strawberry
26-09-12, 18:58
not sure tbh
really want to put 6 2TB drives in Raid 5/6
but thinking it a bit too much so 6 1TB drives will more cost effective and a perfect amount of space for everything
and then I will also most likely have a 60GB SSD as a boot drive
Sounds similar to what I have in my server at home... I've got 5 drives at the moment but with backups I think I need more drives.. I also have an ssd boot drive and I must say it works very well. One of AMD s chips with GPU on the CPU as well.. just a shame it doesn't work at 1600P..
I'm looking to replace all my drives with 2Tb models as they seem the best price per Gb.. just need to find some more cash to buy some and time so I can swap out the drives!! Over my gigabyte network I get more often than not 100Mb/sec copy rates so I'm dead pleased. With the added bonus it sits at the desktop using no more than 30w power at idle I really can't complain :)
Just out of curiosity, and without trying to be too nosey.. how you you guys tend to afford these things?
I can scarcely afford a single 1TB to replace the one I think is about to die on me, let alone 6tb just for storage :(
Mr. Strawberry works as a Escort for the older ladies. :p
I tend to just buy it.. kinda scary when I worked out how much I spent last year with buying two more 30" screens but along with everything else I didn't worry.. it's not like I smoke or can drink much so just goes on my hobbies so pc, cars, cinema, films etc and if I can remote controll cars... I buy what I really want rather than something half way as I know it won't be right so I save myself the money, hassle and time and just spend out more the first time round :)

^^ My thoughts when getting my 4GB 680
Loads of people said to just get a 4GB 670 as its little difference is performance and a lot cheaper but knew I wouldn't be happy when ever i look in my PC case and see 'GTX 670' as aposed to 'GTX 680' so I went all out and got the 680 instead
Where I live work is very seasonal so in the summer holidays i find myself working 40+ hours a week so I treat myself to some nice hardware and in the winter when I'm reduced to about 10 hours a week I save it in a different BA for when I need it in emergencies.

Well from a cost point view the 670 to the 680 I wasn't sure if the performance increase out weighted the cost.. But if you got the cash to go for it, then why the heck not :D I'm trying to get something that is more performance than cost, so maybe the top card might not be needed.... But we'll see what else comes out :D

Unless its one of those Panasonic ultra wide screens you cant get the same fov with 1 screen. With iracing it has in game setup to take away any distortion. The roll bars would be in the way in real life lol so may as well have them there in the sim.
I can honestly say I couldnt play iracing or any of my other racers without 3 screens now. It looks crap until you get the fov and seat position correct but once you get the sweet spot and the 45 angle on the screens its brilliant.
I did try BF3 but it look distorted on the 2 side screens no matter what fov I set. For any other game I'd go single screen but like I say for racing it has to be the 3.

Temps for GPU are 30 Idle, and 45 under load!!! - Used to hit nearly 70 under load on air before :)
I've got to definitely water cool my next set of GPU's....

The coolant is non-conductive so even if you did have a leak on your motherboard, you shouldn't have an issue. I had a leak once, there was a puddle all around the CPU socket. It still functioned and didn't go boom. I was surprised myself. :)
You can always test it for leaks before you turn the entire system on anyway which is advised, so that you have peace of mind.
my rule of thumb is a 2hr leak test
if its not leaking after that, generally isn't going to...not on its own tho :P

nice build fella, what are temps like on the 2500k?
I have the 7950's running 1200/1600 in pretty much every result they match the 7970 card for card. Having the two running together is superb. I can now run BF3 at 1080p 120HZ 3D with no stutter at all. With a single 7970 it stuttered a bit.
2500k is currently at 4.8ghz and has a max of around 72.c when pushed under burn test.
The main reason to swap back to a H100 from the D14 is to exhaust heat out of the case. With the 4 fans on the H100 it sucks out quite a bit of air. I found with the D14 the temps inside the case built up quit quick. Like this they seem a lot better. The 7950's produce a staggering amount of heat and the coolers although very good need quite a bit of help to move the hot air out.
What do you think of the cards, I'm getting a few :)
These are the standard 7950 DD's. They come with the 7970 DD cooler, 8+6 power connectors and dual DVI connectors. Tbh they are superb although when running them together they can get a bit loud.

Its a nice looking case :D Are you planning on adding a few rads per chance??
Yeah it has space for a double at the rear of the other side and obviously another couple of singles (1 front, 1 rear). I'll be running 2 loops with the triple for the CPU and a double, which is in my current rig, for the GPU.
Very nice :) I hope to be seeing a load of pics up when your in build mode ;)

Just need to buy a few more bits then i'll be able to move my hardware over to it's new home and set up the CPU loop:

Don't worry, the silver screws holding in the triple will be replaced with black ones. ;)
Beautiful build!!!!!
Loving it!!!!!
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
£35?!
Looks like a CM scout. I quite like that case too. Also, what's going on with the CPU cooler?
Some nice rigs on here... Need to take a pic of my old case...:thumb:

Very similar to mine m8. That a 240 up top?
I had a 280 and a 120 but found i didnt need the 120 as the 280 did such a good job cooling both gfx and cpu ;)
yep just a 240, might keep my eye out for a 280 then, tubing would be much easier. what 140 fans are you using with it?

All 140 fans are crap for static pressure unfortunately mate. Stick with whatever 120mm ones your using and use the bitspower 140>120mm convertors
If your after a 280 there's only two options (as they need to be thin enough to fit fans and not touch the top of your mainboard in a corsair 650D case) - Magicool or Koolance. I went the Koolance route (more expensive but slightly better performance)
Heres a couple of pics of what it used to be like (with extra 120 rad and 140mm akasa apaches):

and this ones just a little hint to help tidy up that tubing if your sticking with the 120 mate ;)

and what it is now:

tbh - if your not planning on SLI or Crossfire - you won't need that 120mm rad if your using a 280 ;)
Another little hint - if you have the space in your 5.25" bays - move the HDD's up there so it clears the path of the front 200mm fan ;)
My 670GTX@ 1.3Ghz never see's above 45Degrees C!, and my 2700K@4.6Ghz stays at about 60 (both under full stress testing load!)
Sorry I almost forgot - word of warning! - Koolance rad will only fit other way round as standard (i.e. Threads closest to the rear) - I had to mod the top SATA enclosure slightly by trimming it down (using a dremel) from the inside so I could fit it with the threads closest to the front like shown above. Two minutes job tbh and it still leaves the top sata enclosure useable.
cheers for the pics, i cant move my HDD's as i have a 3 bay to 120 fan adapter in the 5.25" bays as an extra inlet, you connection between GPU out and your 120 Rad is what i wanted but i just couldn't manage it without kinking the tubing

Here's one of my PC's - it's due for an upgrade this Christmas. Right now, it's a Q9550, Asus Maximus Extreme, Asus Silent Square Evo, 5770x2 (Vapor-X and HawK,) Corsair XMS3 DHX (2x2GB) in an Antec 1200 case.
After Christmas, it'll be a Q9550, Asus Maximus Extreme, Antec 620, Vapor-X 6870, Corsair XMS3 DHX (4x2GB) in an Antec 1200 case.
The other PC...

(Sorry for the large images!)
It's an AMD Phenom II x6 1055T, Asus M4A88T-V Evo, Zalman CNPS 9900NT, Vapor-X 6870, OCZ Special Ops (2x2GB) in an InWin Track case.
This too will get some upgrades this Christmas, AMD Phenom II x6 1055T, Asus M4A88T-V Evo, Zalman CNPS 9900NT, 7870 Tahiti LE, Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer in a Zalman Z11 Plus case.
Everything is already wrapped under the tree, however I do need a new PSU for a Antec 1200 PC - I'll wait for an Aria hot deal in the new year ;D

Why not put the 7870 LE in the more powerful rig, the Intel one? :D
You reckon so? I always put my Intel second best to my AMD. However, I did once occur to me the Intel PC was better when I used PCMark 7 to compare them.
http://www.3dmark.com/pcm7/445713 - Before I went to 5770x2
http://www.3dmark.com/pcm7/460531 - Current AMD PC
http://www.3dmark.com/pcm7/468055 - Current Intel PC
The HDD in the Intel PC is awful - it's loud, very slow when compared to the one in the AMD PC. So, if I put a faster HDD in or an SSD with the new 8GB memory and the 7870... I should get a lot higher scores! :D
As for the cable management, yes - wasn't aware the InWin didn't have any, hence the change to the Z11. The 1200's could be better but I just wanted to use it, plus it has so many fans I doubt the odd cable or two hindering airflow wouldn't make much of a difference.
My new beast of a laptop :D
