Thanks

It's a CM690 Mk1.

That is one clllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllean build!

If I had smaller hands and the energy to do it, id be able to do more intricate routing of the cables and hide them all from view (cept the power cables) but this will do me for now :D

guys sorry for off top but I saw many builds here and lots of people use enermax fans. Are they any good?

jammi
31-07-11, 22:57
I like the fact you can take the blades off the Enermax fans and overall they are also quite good not the best for moving air, but a nice balance of silence, cfm and design. As I think they look very nice with the cutout halo ring.

Over the last few weeks I've had the Fractal, Be Quiet!, Silverstone, Scythe GT and Enermax fans and they all have their own good and bad points with the Enermax being in the middle and far better then the Fractal which I dont think are better then generic case fans.

Completed pic of the above build, with slight changes which include black sata cable, braided pwr, reset, hdd led and pwr led, last change addition of the Sapphire Ultimate HD6670 1GB DDR5 card.

AX750 is a little overkill isnt it :p?

It was going to be a Silverstone strider 500w first but saw some bad feedback about that then it went to a Silverstone 600w but was only 80+ bronze and wasnt in stock and then ended up with the AX750.

I have a habit of talking myself up to more expensive hardware with the "its only a little bit more then the other one".

@ Jammi love your Fortress 3, I had one recently too they are quite easier to make very tidy considering their size, out of interest what sata cables are they? Have they got some kind of rightangle adapter on them?

Heres my Fractal Arc Mini, gonna redo some of the wiring soon

There Asus sata3 cables that come with the mobo you get two rightangle and two straight with most SB Asus boards but can also be had on the bay for cheap.

Jammi ur photos are actually making me reconsider the ft03, is that the dark rock advanced thats fitting in there? I understand the 'oh I'll just spend 5 quid more 10 quid more...etc'
I'm getting the AX650 I think going with a mATX gene z in a Raven rv02 which does seem too big but I thought hey I really want an ROG board and when I upgrade I can plop the old mobo in a smaller mATX case for the living room or something but I'll still have a big case for the main pc
To FT03 or not to FT03....

jammi
03-08-11, 00:17
No its the Dark Rock Pro, two tower design the bigger version of the Advanced.

Usually when I upgrade (never have a system for more than a year) the part to move over to the new build will be the PSU I tend to overhaul everything else and usually the case too. May have got the AX650 if anyone had it in stock but only paied £113.99 for the AX750 delivered new.

I think it's good not to get tied down to a form factor if you don't need to save on space, so going with a full atx case with a matx mobo is a good move.

Looks great (main reason I got it) keeps the overclocked APU cool without ramping the fan speeds up but mounting it is a bit awakard.

I hate to love these threads. Always makes me want (which is good for Aria) things. Some fantastic set ups.

Jammi & Bradmax57 - your rigs especially. On my regular haunt (TPU) I keep throwing up about how I can't decide on which one to purchase out of the FT03 and the Arc Mini.

Still, until Aria sells the Mini I'm still stuck with 'saving'. I'll be rebuilding a friends rig in the Arc Midi in the next couple of weeks, (I'll be navigating him to Aria for the purchase) and he'll be giving me his rather battered old TJ07 to which I may rebuild my rig into.

Either-way, I want the Arc Mini badly, it's nice to see some shots of it.

5850's can be a bind to watercool. The first XFX 5850BE I got was a standard reference, the second was non-standard - luckily a colleague at work had a reference one which he swapped (along with some gentle persuasion about warranty being longer lol).

Take a look here: http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109835104.pdf and here: http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/waterblock/3831109835104 - only way to tell if your card is 100% reference is to remove HSF first unfortuantely.

Backplates are purely cosmetic and not required on a 5850 - Theyre really only needed for the 5870's (that have memory on the rear side of the card) - they just add to the look and stability of the card (i.e. it doesn't 'bend' as much due to pressure from the pipes etc)

I just spent the morning spring cleaning and yes I know it's august, cleaned the dust filter under the psu, swapped all the fans out, including the noisy thermalright stock cpu fan, put in.

Ordered them yesterday and arrived at 1110 this morning, I know they are cheap but they are quieter than the stock ones and look alot better.
Swapped the 5850's around as the top one runs hotter than the bottom one, changed the Tim to Ic Diamond, and running like a good one and it's quieter.

how are the GT's on the RAD ? .... and the flow meter is in the lower horizontal tube right ? which one did you get ? i'm curious about these things, i'm assuming it just triggers on the CPU fan header so the bios shuts it down if the signal is lost ?

GT's are working spot on with the rad. This is where my Aquaero 5 comes in as it throttles them down to a whisper quiet 600rpm when water temperature is fine (read from two sensors on my rad and one in the res), then boosts them to 1000rpm when required (avn;t had time to test with my thermochill rad but 1krpm was the sweet spot for cooling my ek 360xt)

The flow meter is actually a koolance ins-fm17. If you want to plug it into the mainboard you need a (expensive) digital convertor (I got both and the TA 120.3 for £60!) but as i'm using it with my AE5 - all i had to do was convert the flow meter output to 3 pin and plug it straight into the AE5's flow sensor - works a treat without the need for that convertor!

The AE5 is an amazing piece of kit and looking past the bling bling of its screen it serves as an amazing tool to monitor my whole water system (sweet as I just have it stuck in a corner with no access to side panels etc)

just waiting on my new monitor now - got the bug to upgrade the only other component i cud lol - 3yr old Acer 24" 1080p now being changed to the super HP ZR24W IPS Panel :)

All this in anticipation of bulldozer - i blame amd god darn it! :P

nope..... it's 27cm long ffs, and 99% of that length is covered by the heatsink, which is also 11cm wide !! (not to mention the requirement of 6 heatpipes!)...... so, it is massive !

i have the GTX 570 version of this and i can hardly hear it even with 2 monitors plugged in so it constantly runs at 3D clocks

the fans do pull air in through the heatsink and then blow it out all sides of the card

{SAS}TB

They are surprisingly cool and quiet :)

The air is pulled through the fins and pushed into the sink - very impressed and the extra VRAM is definitely being nicely utilised :)

So Nvidia still have not fixed this issue!

My GTX260 is the same, If I want to use 2 screens now I just enable my 2500k's built in GPU, so it keeps the GTX260 in 2D clocks.

I'd rotate those fans around a bit so their cables come out the back. I had those fans once and they are ugly cables. Sleeve them too ;)

Had a look at one of those before actually, one of the only things that really puts me off is the fans are 3 pin not pwm, other than that it looks great. Should hopefully be getting an accelero xtreme plus soon, just hoping all that extra heat rising upwards won't make too much difference to cpu temps...

Is the the 3000 series or something else?

I had a look at review for the 3000 series ones when looking at something for this 480 and it seems around the same level as the accelero xtreme which is very good considering the size. Only trouble with it is each model only fits one or two specific cards (I couldn't even use a 480 model on a 580 :().

Yea im loving this case mainly got it as i had an antec nine hundred before, it was noisy as hell and the cable management was difficult with it.

This is by far better.

Yes that is the 12v cable, i was a little annoyed it didnt have the reach to go out the back and down from the top, once the side is on it cant be seen.

Buy an extension and hide it round the back for a much cleaner look.

My HAF X came with an 12v extender cable in the brown box you get with it. Have you missed it or have they stopped giving them away with the case?

Yeah, i added the fan when i upgraded from a E2140 to the Q6600, its fine. The drive on the bottom is 42 right now, so not too bad at all. And its been on since the beginning apart from a few times to restart etc.

There was no way it was going to reach out the back of the HAF X and down the top without the extender. Seems Coolermaster did their homework on it and thats why they supply 12v extension cables

How come you haven't connected your hot swap ?

The reason your 8 pin won't fit without the extender is that you have put your PSU in with the fan facing up (this puts the cables at the front)

nice build by the way :thumb:

I tried the psu the opposite around and it still didnt reach, so i switched it back, i didnt like the idea of the fan sucking up all the crap from my carpet an inch or so below.

I havn't connected the hotswap as I currently have no use for it, im thinking about taking it out all together and installing a 120mm fan at the front of the case in the trays place.

The Elysium is larger than the HAF X, and before that I had it working fine on a HAF932, we have the same PSU.
