View Full Version : Gladiator Black Pearl Noise Levels?

Hello Everyone,

I just recieved my Black Pearl PC yesterday and am a bit shocked by how loud it is.

I dont know if this is just how it is or something is wrong? When the system idles the noise coming from the H70 fans is quite intrusive, but when I start playing a game its just crazy when the GPU card fans kick in, the temps go up and after a few minutes the card fans are going at 70-80% and its like sitting next to a hoover.

I have been reading a few reviews of SLI card setups and alot of them say they cant really hear them. I was expecting a quiet PC but this is a lot louder than the rig I built myself, I know its subjective but if anyones got a black Pearl please is it really quiet or is it loud as well?

Many thanks.

EDIT: Please see my last comment, the system is running much much quieter now dont know why but now really happy, the only thing I would change is the stock fans on the H70 as for my ears these are just the wrong frequency but this is easily sorted.... so very very happy.

Which overclocked 460's did the build come with? The palit gtx 460 sonic platinums, the Asus Top version or something else?

The better the PC, the louder it is.

AFAIK only Cyclone and HAWX cards are available form MSI in the 460 range, both of which are very quiet in normal operation (the cyclone i can definitely vouch for) so something must be a miss somewhere.

Or... the more a system is pushed/overclocked the faster the fans have to spin to compensate?

I agree. The 460 cyclone is supposed to be a fair bit quieter than stock.

As for the H70, I think i remember it being able to run at a slower speed which would hopefully reduce the noise level although also reducing the effectiveness of cooling.

It might be best seeking help from Aria customer services if you aren't confident with tweaking it yourself.

Do you have the 460's in sli and if so what are the sorts of temps / fan speeds your getting?

Also I think I am going to have to remove the stock fans on the H70 and replace them with maybe some Akasa 120mm Apache PWM super silent fan the fans are already on the slow setting with the resistance cables were shipped out like this but I cant live with the noise of the stock ones its giving me a headache :knock:

Hi I just thought I would update the thread, today when I turned it on the system is much much quieter dont know why but everything is now running at what I would call quiet even at load so now very happy. The only thing that I can hear which must just be a frequency thing for myself are the stock fans on the H70 which is easily resolved by getting different ones.

I don't actually have a gtx 460 I was going by db levels in reviews placing it lower than stock but I'm glad to hear you're sorted.

I've got the same case and similar setup, go into BIOS and turn on Q-FAN

Just a point of interest; we used to overclock and overvolt the Black Pearls' 460's to 800mhz core and 1000mV using MSI's AfterBurner software. I don't know if this practise is still done, but those 460's you are running are not at stock.

Mines pretty load, I can sit at the other end of my double room and know if its on or not...

maybe a loudness indicator (like a traffic light system) should be introduced for components that tend to vary in loudness.. I have a feeling its my 2 graphics cards... but the sales advisor said it would still be quiet...

on a side note, I opened mine up to add a hard drive and noticed the most expensive case fan wasn't even connected! quite silly if you ask me.

The success to a quiet PC is having awful ears. The sort of ears where you put on big 5.1 headphones at full blast to play games.

You will never have a loud PC ever gain. Goto some live music gigs too. Not even kidding, all PCs sound quiet to me nowadays.
