A few weeks ago bought this System-

Intel Core i5-760
Arianet4672(450 watt P/S) Case
Gigabyte GA-H55m-UD2H
OCZ GOLD4Gb's-2x2 1333 Mhz
VTX Radion HD 5770 1GB
Samsung HD103SJ 1 TB
Sony AD-5260S
All for £500.10 including delivery(drat could'nt beat £500)
Installed latest Drivers and Catalyst 10.9,and Motherboard and Bios updates.
Everything seemed great on Windows 64,got 7.5 average Windows Experience Index, then installed and tried some simple DirectX7? games and noticed some would play and others lost Video, with my Monitor noticing a Signal of some form but screen blank ,no way of even getting Task Manager,Control Alt Delete,so had to just crash the System.
Tried the most obvious Compatabilty Mode ,Admin'r.
Then tried some DirectX9 games,Halo and Wofstein ok,then a Call of Duty and a Video crash.
Tried Windows 32 bit same problem.
Have run some Benchmark test,Passmark etc,and passes them all. So today put old System card Radion 5200 256MB in PCI slot in(took new card out), guess what games played DirectX7 games ok as Celeron System always did.
My partner today had a chat with there IT chaps and they said Card at fault.
So if any one has any ideas before return of said Card would be most Welcome:|

It probably is the card, though your PSU is suspect. See if you can test the GPU in another known-working system obv with PCI-E before RMAing it.

Also, welcome to the forums ;)

It is entirely possible that a new card like the 5770 will not play DX7 games. Try xp compatibility mode? I would say try different drivers, especially 10.7/10.6

It plays older games, and checked that DirectX goes way back with latest updates,it just seems to be flacky with some games, and have never heard of this being a problem with new cards.
Have done full tests and all 2 and 3D Video tests passed, tested durability tests and processor pushed to the limit all OK.
As to power usage it would not past said tests?and why would it play a more power hungry game, then fail on a lowly one.Have put power meter with Monitor and Computer taking 112Watts at idle and on power of no video game it went up to 130Watts stable,so hardly breaking the power Bank.
Have also tested on main TV vie HDMI,Monitor VGA,same happens.
Would love to Know if any one else has had this happening?:|

knowing that Aria tend to use Furmark to test GPU's, run Furmark for a while and observe behaviour.

Hello all,Just put back Hd 5770 and booted to 64bit System, were I had previously tried to install Driver for Radion 5200 to no avail so booted to 32bit no problems there running simple games(my partner plays them, that's what all this is for).
As I had uninstalled All ATI trying to get Radion 5200 to run,and found Driver installed was dated 25/08/2010 latest being 9/15.Had previously tried one roll back to Catalyst to 10.8,tried a roll back to 10.1 on 27/1/2010,driver now dated 11/12/2009.Same thing happening.
Just checked Specifications, two games crashing Video Restraunt Rush- DirectX 9.0C and Burger Shop- DirectX7 or higher and one that works Cooking Dash Two- DirectX7 or Higher and 700Mhz or better Processor.
So seems more than likely Card at fault, going to put back old Card for my partner to get her fix again?

Just used Futuremark,Run Stability test for 15 minutes,results-
FPS MIN 33 MAX 67 AV 45 TEMP 69-70c at end of test.

Benchmark SCORE 2669 MIN 38 MAX 67 AV 45 TEMP 68C
Max power just Computer 220Watts on 1.8.2 on 1.70 test few watts less.

Every thing looked stable as with other tests done.
