Right guys, here's my situation;
I am upgrading my pc, well more of a new build, but using old components, anyway...
I have a case, keyboard, mouse etc... and will have an Asus P5KPL-VM motherboard, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz and OCZ 2GB PC2-6400 Platinum Rev 2.0
What i need to know is, will i be able to use my old, i assume IDE HDD DVD RW and a new NEC ND-5170A-0B 18x DVDRW?
If not is there a SATA to IDE Cable i could use or another DVD RW which is sata? not amazing speeds, around 20x
I don't see why you couldn't..unless I'm missing something

The motherboard has only 1 ide connection

Unfortuantly there's no ide to sata cables. however there is 2 options
buy a ide controller card which will give another 2 ide connections
or buy a sata dvdrw, http://www.aria.co.uk/Products?search=AD-7170S&searchCat=807 see here for nec sata dvdrw's.
hope this helps.
oops..I thought that NEC drive was a sata :redface:

I suppose i don't, but it'd be good to, do disc to disc copying and that.
So this means if i buy a SATA DVDRW i can use my current dvdrw and hd still, until i get more money for SATA HD
why do you need 2 dvdrw?
because people like me are lazy and if they have 2 games that need the cd in the drive to play then i carnt be bothered keep having to get up off the bed and walk to the pc and change the disc.
lol how lazy am i, but erm no, i only have 1 drive anyway so guess im not really that lazy :p

Fair enough, how often do you do disk to disk copying? Personally i would rather get a sata hard drive first and get my os sorted out, os on a sata hdd drive will be more beneficial to overall system performance than on the fly cd / dvd copying.
i wouldnt by Sata HD Dvd Drives untill the new year when prices will go down.
