2. Where did this happen?

3. What was it called?

4. Tie breaker - why can wireless internet drive you mad?

Why can they drive you mad? Well, the old ones would have been really rather slow and expensive and would have been maddening to set up.

Modern ones (IEEE 802.11) can be infuriating as signals are often weakened by various different things, either by things being in the way (walls etc.) or by other devices emitting frequencies that harm the wireless ones. This can result in internet connections dropping, websites not loading and games having high latencies. All of which are very annoying.

1. The first wireless network was tried & tested in 1991.

2. Nieuwegein, the Netherlands.

3. Wave LAN.

4. Its often frustrating as with poor quality equipment, the signal can often drop - leaving the user frustrated and without the internet momemtarily. Some channels overlap with other equipment and neighbours signals so some interference can occur and general security can be frustrating if someone has forgotten there network password or has left it unprotected without knowing.

The first wireless LAN came together in1971 when networking technologies met radio communications at the University of Hawaii as a research project called ALOHNET. The bi-directional star topology of the system included seven computers deployed over four islands to communicate with the central computer on the Oahu Island without using phone lines. And so, wireless technology, as we know it, began its journey into every house, classroom, and business around the world.

Wireless internet can be annoying because it is flakey (ie it can drop out and slow down when and how it pleases) and the best way to make it more reliable/stronger is with a priingles can

4. wireless internet can drive you mad well any kind of internet can drive you mad the internet is addictive stressful yet engaging. Like all technology it can be frustrating for the less technical people amoung us,.. Wireless internet can be erratic and inconsistent due to the way radio waves behave and are effected by atmospheric conditions and other wireless devices. This is where the madness comes in , one day you can have a great signal and get sort your farmville out in the garden with a pims... the next day the signal strength is low and you have troublesome intermittent wifi so you think something is wrong and start changing settings where there wasnt a problem only low pressure and damp atmosphere reducing the range of the radio waves..

ALOHAnet, also known as the ALOHA System, or simply ALOHA, was a pioneering computer networking system developed at the University of Hawaii. ALOHAnet became operational in June, 1971, providing the first demonstration of a wireless data network.

It is very annoying when the connexion drops out in the middle of an online gaming session. It is also really madening when your mother in law (and sister in law too!) asks you to check "her internet because its too slow" to find out an unsecured connexion and a lot of people sucking from it!
