Some of the keys on this laptop aren't working, the ones that don't work are grouped together: gh, xcvb, ;'#- and sometimes the arrow keys play up e.g. press down and it works then press again and it doesn't until up is pressed. It's not a software problem as I booted into Ubuntu live they still don't work. I've reseated and changed the RAM, sounds like the keyboard is broke to me, any ideas?
Cheers.

Just get a new keyboard if everything looks good and in place.. They're not expensive and its a very easy job... :)

Yeah, new keyboard on the bay is only £11.79 inc P+P. :)

Have you spilt anything on it? Anything with sugar in it can dry and make keys stick, the fact that the sticking keys are grouped together tends to support that theory.

I've found that squirting a sticking keyboard with distilled or de-ionised water, shaking it about, turn it upside down, shake again and then letting it dry out naturally often helps clear sticking keys.

The owner cleaned the keyboard with a damp cloth. A new keyboard is the best option I think. :)

I've taken laptop keyboards out & washed them in the sink, with warm water. Then just leave to dry fully for a day or 2. 9 times out of 10 it restores keyboards from spillages; & if it doesn't work, new ones are only £10-20.

i took my bros laptop apart when it was completely dead, and there were no fewer than 30 screws!

a lot of it had plastic tabs (of break easy fame) to get the keyboard bit off.

easy, not a HP laptop!

Yes some HPs can be a pain, but most laptops require just 2 or 3 screws and the cable removed to change the keyboard.

You generally don't have to take apart a laptop to change the keyboard tho.. Just remove the top panel on the main laptop body (directly under the screen), take out the 2 or 3 screws, flip up the keyboard and detach the ribbon cable.. Then do the same in reverse to replace it. 10 minute job normally..!

what did they actually send you then? oh and make sure you get them to refund the postage if they want it returning as a lot of sellers try to say they don't need to do that when they actually do

They sent me a different keyboard, the P/N is different that what it says on the page. It says on the page that I have to pay the postage to send it back.

Well after sending it back, he's removed the keyboard I originally asked for. Basically it's like he's sent me the wrong one as he has none of the one I want in stock, hoping I wouldn't send it back. What a waste of :censored: time!
