Inspired by a different thread :)

Everytime I set up windows, even after an XP install I always change the settings around to match the Classic style of Windows, which means on Windows 7 - small taskbar icons - dont combine, no screensaver or power saving, custom desktop wallpaper and small desktop icons (I try to keep it to a maximum of 3 rows of icons).

Do you customise yours or do you leave it as it is after install and adjust to the new style?

Whenever I reinstall 7, I change the aero colour scheme to black, and put all my most used programs onto the new shiny task bar. That's about it :P

I use arch linux with gnome. May switch my DE to openbox and customize it more when I get some time.

Still on XP - everything on Classic settings... turn off as many "shiny" things as possible :p

When I used XP I couldn't wait to get rid of the awful blue theme. Silver was better and olive looked sickly, but normally I would install WindowBlinds with the Keramik theme which mimicked the look of an old version of KDE.

Now I'm on Windows 7. I like medium desktop icons with a custom wallpaper. Glass colour set to Sky with my most used icons in the taskbar. Gadgets I like are Weather, System Monitor and Clock. Wallpaper automatically changes every 24 hours of use. No screensaver and I use power saving to trick my brother into thinking the computer is off so that he won't complain about it "leeching the internet" whenever he gets a high ping in WoW.

Taskbar icons are small with labels and no grouping, to give it the classic look.

For a short while I had my taskbar at the top of the screen, similar to that of Ubuntu or MAc OS. That was nice in XP but not so good with 7. Not sure why. It just doesn't feel right.

small icons, get the quick launch bar in there too. Other than a theme or 2 thats it.

i know some people get modded themes and stuff where the start button. sorry, menu button is changed etc. But tried it once and screwed up my install so never done it again.
