85Mbps Powerline Ethernet x2

Any idea when they will be back in stock and do they have Vista drivers ?

shouldnt need drivers as they work as if it's connected via cable anyway.

Everybody else i know needs drivers for there homeplugs to work to setup QoS and the 56-Bit DES encryption with Key Management.

Is that actual drivers tho? Or is that something thats built in to the homeplug itself, maybe via an web based management page or something?

Homeplugs are plug and play but to setup encryption password and the plug network names you need software.

Quote from google.

1.12.4. Can my neighbour receive my HomePlug signal?

It is possible for your neighbour to receive your HomePlug signal between two adjacent homes. To prevent this from happening, please enable the 56-bit DES security encryption on your HomePlug Device. To do that, you must install and run the HomePlug Configuration Utility.

Ah ok - it sounds more like an application rather than actual drivers? In which case, who knows if it will work in Vista! ;)

Back in stock now. I can confirm that these are vista compatible as stated on the packaging.

Where does it say on the packaging that the software inc for the encryption is Vista compatible ?

I thought the software was built in to the plug deeley - Isn't the data between your PC and the plug unencrypted and the data between plugs encrypted?

These are getting complex...

Do they have IP addresses that allow you log in to them to adjust settings???

I'm pretty lost myself but Netgear have posted a software update for one of there homeplugs so the encryption works with Vista as without its just an open lan connection ?

So i assumed it was the same for all homeplug 1.0

also you tend to need the Software Utility to setup and change Qos.

from my source i have had these checked and the box clearly states that these are vista compatable.

I have the netgear version and they work fine.

Homeplugs are plug and play and will work with anything but is the included software Vista compatible so you can setup plug names , passwords and encryption and also the level of Qos to bandwith ?

I will try and have them checked.

From what i've just been reading at google about homeplug powerline real speed v's Advertised peak speed i'm starting to wonder if i would be better off with 200Mb homeplugs as i'm on 20Mb cable internet.

Have you looked at the actual throughput of Wireless LAN too?

A friend of mine with ADSL2 (@24Mbps) dumped Wireless and cabled up his house as the 54Mbps throughput was insufficient and was throttling his download...

I plan on avoiding Wireless as it's been nothing but trouble for my friends too.

Playing games online via wireless seems to be almost impossible with lag and the connection cutting out , My mate lost internet connection everytime his Great Dane walked past his router so he had to put it up higher. :D

Im on wireless and get no lag...Full download speed on most things. Works fine.

Apart from transfering stuff pc to pc wirelessly...Thats just not possible.

Anyone tell me how long to transfer a 4g file using homeplug?

I used to be on wireless and i just to get lag spikes every 1mins if i was playing a game which was very annoying because 1min i was looking at the car, the next min im look at the sea. So i switched to LAN.

Devolo dLAN 200Mbs

"I shared a folder on the PC and used it to copy almost 4.5GB of data across the network. Windows' SMB file-sharing system isn't the most efficient of protocols, and the data took 20m 12s to transfer, or 29.44Mbps. That's rather better than the 20.86Mbps I got from Devolo's 85Mbps product.

I also used the open source network testing tool iperf to measure the link's TCP bandwidth and got 43.5Mbps - just over the guaranteed minimum. Compare that to the 11.6Mbps I got from my 802.11g wireless network - in the vicinity of six other WLANs - using the same test"

200mbs and only get 29.44 out of it?

You got to be joking right?

Im ****ed off with all these "upto" products:evil:

Sorry. Im having a bad day...

mega 'bits' per second
a theoretical full amount you can get.
Mega 'bites' per second,
the real amount of bandwidth you achieve, bits/8 then the rest is the unachieveable bandwidth.

lol i wonder how many people think MB in broadband terms stands for Mega Byte and ring up saying why are they not downloading at 20MB a second

Sl4x0r
07-11-07, 09:55
Well - the 200Mbps line can teoretically transfer 25MB/s - but if you include overheads, headers, footers, blah blah blah - you ought to be getting about 15MBps -

So the 29.44 MUST be Mbps - which is shocking... It can't possibly be MB/s

Devolo have just solved the issue of having to install software to activate the encryption on homeplugs by having hardware encryption on a button on the plugs. :)

dLAN 200 AVeasy Starter Kit

http://www.devolo.com/co_EN_cs/produkte/dlan/dlan200aveasysk.html

"Maximum data security

The special feature of the dLAN 200 AVeasy adapter: a touch of a button is all it takes to activate powerful 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption for maximum security. No additional software is required. Locking down your network couldn't be easier!"
