Without Microsoft we'd probably all be using OS/2 or something like that...

But there'd still be a monopolistic single entity that gave us all operating systems and office applications (and probably some damned fine hardware too) - But then we'd all be sitting around saying "imagine a world without HAL..." or something...

It's the way the industry moves - and I dare say nothing would be different - just the name on the tin.
