Need a new wireless adapter for my pc.. wondering whats best to get?

USB or card.. which holds the best signal etc?

Internal cards with a separate antenna like 38828 work best in my experience.

I'd second the external antenna. If you run into reception issues you can firstly have a play about with position, and then if pushed replace the standard with a higher gain model.
Your mobo has 5 PCI slots, so unless you've filled them all up andyn's suggestion should be fine.

I tend to avoid usb adapters as from my experience they have a short lease of life and drastic signal differences from minute to minute

I agree, my one and only experience of a usb stick was dire. Switched back to an internal card as fast as I could order one from Aria.
