Do you position your set nav, if you have a non built in one, in the centre of the windscreen, or to the right hand side of the windscreen.

I position mine to the right, but looking at other road users I seem to be in the minority.

Just curious.

centre... mainly for Mrs. grapes... I usually know where i'm going :D

Definitely centre of the windscreen for numerous reasons

1. Power cable reaches easier
2. It feels more natural to look at it when positioned there
3. Built in sat navs are in the centre not at the edge :)

putting it in the far right makes the pillar blind spot even blinder.

Centre everytime

To me it feels much more natural to the right, but I do agree about the power cable, mine has to flow around the steering wheel.

I position mine very low to the right, so I have to look down to view the sat nav screen, which I do to view the speedo etc, so it doesn't effect my field of view at all.

Either centre or to the right depends if im in the car on my own or not. If using the phone sat nav then its in the middle.

Mines on the left... called "Vicki"... lovely nagging voice with an A3 book called "AA road maps"... gives her something to do whilst I get on with the driving :)

lol... mine's Jane (and is what the device is usually known as in our house... "Have you got Jane?" "don't ignore Jane" etc...)

Idetic memory for maps ftw!

But if I'm going somewhere I've not had time to look at a map for, I have it on my phone, under the radio, and just listen to the directions - barely ever look at the screen

Then your sat nav must be in the centre AND to your right?

Personally, I put mine in the centre for the following reasons:
1. Power cable reaches the cigarette lighter
2. Power cable doesn't have to stretch in front of me
3. It feels more out of the way there
4. It has come unstuck a few times. If I had it to the right, it'd fall off and hit me, or land on my lap or land on the floor near my feet, which is not good. In the centre, when it falls off, it just falls about 2 inches and lands in the little central pocket on top of my dash and continues to navigate me.
5. Just like checking your rear-view mirror, it's easy to just glance at it to see what's coming up. You can do that while checking the mirror as well.

Tom Tom One (with Billy Connolly voice) positioned bottom right of windscreen.

I can understand some people like it central, or slightly left, but like me - I'm sure we've all seen a few that seem to be smack bang in the drivers eyeline. That cracks me up!

A friend of mine's Dad had a Citroen that had a windscreen that blocked the signal. He could only get a signal using by sticking the unit on a rear window - he'd set it, stick it on, get in the drivers seat and just listen to the commands :D

Oh, I saw this title and thought you were asking about the "Choke the chicken" hand. But on another note. I have mine on the left.

When I use one, it's on the right, easier to adjust there.

I have to have mine to the right of me as I wouldnt be able to reach it in the centre... and before you say it, I dont have short arms- just a wide dashboard :)

Sat nav??

Never had one, Ive used my phone a few times, and that just gets stuck in front of the rev counter, and the same when I borrowed a sat nav to go to tyneside somewhere.

I usually print out a map if I think im going to get really lost, doesn't happen too often, I went to my mates in faversham a few years ago to get the engine for the mini, been there once and arrived on the back of a low loader, got there and it was hi, im just around the corner, I can see your house, but there's a railway line in the way.. So I have a really good sense of direction and a good memory for roads.

Ive used google maps to find the car before now though if Im parked up somewhere I dont know

Did he not think of getting an external GPS aerial? :D Much better. I have one that I picked up off ebay for a couple of quid. Improves the reception and satellite speed a lot!

I use a tomtom 740xl and it sits in the centre of the dash as I bought a mounting kit to put it there so it's in easy reach, the cable goes to the cigarette lighter nice and easily and doesn't obstruct a windscreen....would recommend the mounts to anyone

Mine is in the centre when I bother to use it, just because I don't like trailing cables, plus it doesn't block the air vent whereas on the right it would.

If im driving miles i tend to get near enough to place im going, if it isnt sign posted or whatever i'll pull the sat nav out and let it guide me there. I tried using it both on the right and centre and on the right its too distracting for me, centre seems great.

i've seen some people stick it directly in front of them just above their eyeline, i think they drive looking at the sat nav screen instead of road FAIL!
