Right i know you are gonna think im mad but i wanna get back to a single card format and being the *** that i am i am wanting something as powerfull as what my 2 xHD5850s give me now but in single card format, which is probably a HD5970 or maybe a HD 5870 or i may even go Nvidia and get a GTX480 even though i read mixed messages about heat issues ect or even sell both cards add a little cash and get a new mobo with SLI and buy 2x GTX460s as i hear real good things about the 460s in SLI.

Dont get me wrong XFIRE is awesome when it works but i only game at 1920x1080p and dual GPU setups are recommended for gaming at high resolutions like 2560x1600 ,where multi-GPU technology works at its best the games i will be playing most from now till well over xmas is Pro evo and fifa 11 and i tried both demos which run like crap in Xfire but run fine when Xfire is disabled which rather ****es me right off and makes my desire for a single card realy strong to be honest so what you reckon am i bonkers or what lol.

Let the tongue lashings begin lolsy..:)

well technically the 5970 is still xfire i have it no issues though yet i would get it, they have dropped in price a lot.

5850 is (at 5870 speeds) 5% slower? It would be a pointless purchase... 5970 is pretty much 2x under clocked 5870 running at 5850 speeds... a 480 with its current driver set and OC ability is one hell of a card in my case besting a stock 5970 which would make it ideal. Issue is you need a nuclear power source and chenobyl was a disaster lets face it...

I'm currently using a 5850. If i felt the need to upgrade it would be a gtx 480.

i have a 5850 right now and i would like to crossfire but it could be pointless as i only game at 1920x1080 as well, dont really want to spend a grand on a monitor that has a res of 2560x1600, so yeah i would upgrade to a GTX 480 or unless you can wait until the new 6xxx series cards come out? that would be the best option, but if you cant wait until then, then get a GTX480 deffos :)

yep if your selling second hand me and a few other members go for the 25% sell on rule, its what £200 on here new? its a less desirable shroud and cooler, the reference cards tend to fetch more but dont take my word for it mate see what other people say about it too

i would say definately wait for the 6xxx series as when they come out there could be the perfect single card for you in that range, you just don't know. obviously there might not be and you will still be in the same situation but what if you go through all the hassle of selling your two 5850's (and maybe for a lower price than you wanted) and get a 480 (which uses alot of electric and has really hot temps) and then a month after the 6xxx series comes out theres a single gpu card in the range that blows the 480 away, you'd be gutted. i'm sure you can put up with two 5850's for a couple more months (or maybe sell one and save the money) until they arrive.:)

lol i like how you said 'put up with' as if its a bad thing :p i wouldnt mind having a second 5850!, but then again it would kinda be pointless right? im gonna wait on these 6xxx cards as well i think instead of going crossfire. bit of an overkill if im only gaming at 1080p

hehe i know, most people would buzz off just having one 5850. But yes the only other single card thats gonna cut it for him (if the 5970 is out) is the 480 if he don't wanna wait.:)

gtx 480 if you don't mind electricity bills as long as acer serial numbers,

2 x 460's would be similar to 2 x 5850's if not slightly worse only benefit would maybe in physX enabled games, if you wanted the fancy detail, maybe a sapphire toxic 5970?

This, I have no idea why you'd consider a downgrade (SLI scaling is a little better, but thats offset by the fact a stock 5850 is a little faster than a pre-overclocked GTX460 1GB).

In all fairness your not gonna get that level of performance without sli/xfire and/or spending an absolute fortune.

Would £165 inc delivery be a fair asking price for my 3 week old VTX HD5850???

you could try it and see what interest you get out of it on here on the forum but if theres no interest after a while drop it to the £150 mark, still no interest then chuck it on the bay
