Hi Guys,

Getting my sister a new phone for her Birthday. Any suggestions on what is good value these days as I'm out of touch. Anything sub £100 considered.

She has had an old Motorola L6 for ages now so anything is going to be a step up. She texts more than she calls, so a decent keypad would be good. Although I don't think she wants a Blackberry style full keypad as that makes the phone too bulky.

Ideally needs to be unlocked or locked to Vodafone as she wants to stick with Vodafone.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,

Mark

@spaceboy
I (Literally) just got one.

for £99 it's amazing!
loads of people are jumping to it ( http://android.modaco.com/category/453/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/ ) as it's so cheap AND good
pros:
£99 on PAYG
WVGA
fast enough (600 MHz Qualcom chip) to not be laggy like the wildfire
same size as my nokia e71
has been picked up by the modding community so fast, that it's already got a massive modding backing :D
doesn't have the cachet of HTC or samsung (but hey... £99 )
cons:
awful camera (3 MP and noisy, noisy, noisy)
600 MHz qualcom may be a bit slow for some apps
orange branding

I'll add a few more as i come across them

I ended up going for a LG Optimus GT540 and my sister is very pleased with it. Looks great and seems like good value for money.

Nowhere near as good value as the 'Frisco or even the Pulse, i'd change it if you still can.

frisco is the new pulse :D

only problem i've had so far is with orange...
they make you buy an initial top up of £10. you then set up your tariff. i chose dolphin. 300 included texts and some internet for topping up £10.

however what they don't tell you is that the tariff doesn't kick in til you get a text from them, so just in messing around, I've depleted that £10 as i haven't had the text yet. CS said it could take 24 hours!

She is happy with it and tbh that is all that matters. I don't see the Pulse or Frisco having much over it, bar a slightly newer version of Android and a few features.
