For £160 to £170. HELP ME. I'm hovering over a buy button somewhere on the interportals...
so let me get this straight these rip the back out of a gtx and gts?
Just looking at the CPU usage table WOW very very low
edit
Also outperforms a 640mb GTS and GTX, very close to a 768mb.
edit
and it rolls over a 2900xt 1gb!! Ooohhh
why so cheap,
downsides etc etc ?
Edit again

Argh! This looks great. Do I sell my GTS and get a GT NOW, or do I just wait for the next gen cards in a couple of months? With the knowledge that my GTS will be worth a lot less than right now?

Get it on the bay, it will fetch reasonable £ as not many people will realise 8800gt is out or how good it is. Purchase 8800GT with change to spend on beer :P

This is THE plan ^
My only issue so far is the memory interface. A far as I know DX10 runs better on a wider interface. So surely a GTS clocked at 600Mhz [like mine] should outperfom a GT. Although I have the 320MB version, so
I have also been thinking about getting one of those Fatal1ty Zalman FC-ZV9 coolers to make 650Mhz stable. That should see the GTS be as good as a GT?
But then the GT overclocks to 700Mhz and would be better again...
Next question, do I sell it [GTS] as overclocked [flashed] and fully tested? I have it 100% stable at 550Mhz, it benches at 650Mhz and I think 600Mhz is also stable although thats not been tested as much.
So should I sell it flashed and pre-overclocked? Or do you get less money that way?

sell sell sell :) while u still can !
only drawback is noise levels due to the smaller fan?

This is a funny idea of you guys intervening! I have resigned myself to buying this card
Yeah its noisier and hotter than a GTS, BUT I'm going to rip the cooler monstrosity off and put on a Zalman FC-ZV9 cooler. Those things are much better.
what other cooler options are there? how much is that zalman ?

Roughly £30 for the zalman. Difficult to find it though. Its hard to find good coolers I think.
overclocked cpu and graphics u not considered water cooling :)

STOP tempting me to buy more things I cannot afford!
I'm going over here now to bury my head in the sand and pretend this whole 'GT' thing is NOT happening. Watercooling is LIES, don't make me do it

Well that lasted long. I just read this: tomshardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/)
And its another source that confirms the GT smokes anything smaller than a GTX.
Who wants to buy an overclocked 8800GTS? :P

Give you £50 for it :D

Deal. £110 postage and packaging.
£50.24p and ill collect
seriously though get it on the bay, 5 day listing, title *RARE OC'ed blah blah *
buy the new card and be happy!
get it on flea bay buy it now £150 ;)

Noooo!
I think the hassle of selling this outweights the benefits. I'm going to sit tight, overclock my GTS, and wait for the next generation of graphics cards which is in a couple of months.
Oh and If Aria sells the the GT for anything over £160 it will be overpriced ;)

You seen them for £160 :O

£130 if we believe what the Inq tells us (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/10/26/geforce-8800gt-today-130-quid).
sparkle or zotac :O :(
True, but if we take their prices as a baseline then is it worth spending up to £170(?) on a brand like Asus or EVGA? Thats £40 for a sticker on the card.

good point :) use the £40 to get a better cooler :D

Precisely!
And the Inq just chipped in with their own GT review (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/10/29/inq-grills-8800gt-dx10-hit).
I have been informed from a very reliable source Aria should have them in tomorrow hopefully for £130 plus vat. what a bargain.
and to think I paid 4 ton for my 7950gx2! :(

Oh no!
I'm going to be sensible and wait a week or two, see what else floats up, then buy one!
EDIT: Maybe even two! It is christmas...
Just been looking at the guru3d benchies and it outperforms the GTX in some games! WTF!

Its a bit nuts...
When these pop up on aria and I have some money floating about I will snag myself one then sell my GTS.
For now I am just going to

I'm a graphics card n00b and don't understand much of them
But from what i see an 8800GT will cost £165 on Aria, ASUS.?
Ooooooooooooooh

From what I can see on the picture there, it looks like Asus have stuck it on a black board. That would look cool.
£167 though, thats more than I was expecting.
still a decent price though for what is almost 8800gtx power.
Didnt someone post a link to somewhere selling it for £135? Or that may not have been on here.. Although it wasnt an Asus card, its still a good deal!
They should be £135 according to the INQ. But companies hardly sell for that little or the product isnt as good value to sell..
I also not that the prices of GTS' have not changed. Why would anyone buy a GTS for > £180 when a GT is £165 ?

Isnt it the 256mb version that will sell for £135?
I've just purchased one of these cards now I couldnt help myself after reading some of the reviews and one of my colleges who sent me his 3dmark scores.
cant wait to get home tonight and try it out...
out goes my 7900gx2 and in goes my 8800GT...
which means more space in my case and i get 2 sata ports back.
excellent, make sure you post some 3d mark scores :)
Not my system - but a very reliable source
Ignore the fact is says Generic VGA - these are legit
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee53/BigPhilB6000/8800GT.jpg
WOW just WOW!
it won't show the clocks due to the nvidia driver not 100% supporting it yet. My 7950gx2 was the same. It may even score slightly higher when the next driver has "official" support for it!! :)

I'll be putting it up later this evening once my cameras battery is charged :)
Do you want benchies with all my other hardware overclocked? I'll do that now...

The following are with CPU @ 2.66Mhz and Ram at 800Mhz (stock settings)
3dMark06:
8690 factory
9408 overclocked
3dMark05:
14930 factory
15447 overclock
EDIT: Still pondering about selling it! :S Can't be ****d with eofbay.
Ok here's my score in 3d mark 06. still have some tweaking to do....
This is with the cpu @ 2.5ghz
Score 9821
Date: 2007-10-31CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4400GPU: (2.5ghz OC)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (stock)
Patriot pc2-6400 2gb kit (stock)
Microsoft Windows Vista
Res: 1280x1024
When I take the cpu to 3.00ghz it shows as a E6850 but wont complete the test. so will tinker some more and post again tomoz.
Thanks Alex! :)
My 06 comes out at 7400 on my 7950gx2 with a 939 x2 4200 and 2gb ram.
I'm now thinking Slexors posted score 14500 something i think, was helping a lot by the Q6600? so me getting an 8800GT wouldnt be of that much benefit! id probably get another 1000 if that.
Now if I could achieve 14500 with my system the credit card would be out right now!!
LOL

My 7950GX2 (facotry speeds all round) gets around 7K in 2006 - the 8800GT would be really tempting if I didn't own two Xbox360s...
i'll take 1 off your hands if the price is right... ;)
If you look at tystar's score, its quite close to my overclocked GTS (9408 and 9821). Its a shame he doesnt have an E6750 for comparison. Although an E4400 at 2.5Ghz is close to mine at 2.66, which is what I ran the tests at!
Thing is thats comparing an overclocked GTS to a factory GT. So an overclocked GT would get more than a GTS.
The Q6600 will skew the test upwardss massively because of the CPU tests that 3dMark does. Shame those tests don't show a GTS, we could compare and make a decision about upgrading.

Ill take the other and ill feed it to some cats or somthing

Now running CPU Stable @ 3.00ghz and get 3d mark of 10771 - still running Card at stock.
Will try and get the card stable at a resonable speed over the weekend and will repost results on monday.
