View Full Version : Ronnie O'Sulkivan
So, the genius thats is Ronnie O'Sullivan has gone and made another maximum break. His 10th in total taking him above Hendry on 9
He potted one red and one black and asked the ref 'whats the prize for a 147?'
'no prize, 4k for high break only'
So, without making a great deal of effort, he gets to 140 with a straight black on its spot, shakes his opponents hand and goes to leave the areana until the ref says 'pot the black Ron'
So he slams it in as hard as he can and says in his post-match interview
'once i knew there was no prize for maximum i couldnt be bothered'
and
'nah, not really' (when asked if the fans reaction to his maximum pleased him)
What a ***
arrogance... the leveller of the "famous".
no point being good at something if you're going to be a <expletive> about it
He's always been like that. I like him because he doesn't care and is still amazing at what he does. Just imagine what he could do if he could be bothered half the time.
Thats it though isnt it, if you were blessed with the best cue arm and snooker brain the world has ever seen, wouldnt you try and break every record there is along the way ?
Look at that marathon runner Haille Gabriellesellase (spelling) and what he maneges to achieve year after year in one of the toughest set of events athletics has to offer, yet he keeps going and trying new things against men much younger than him - and succeeds, because he has a genuine love and respect for the sport.
Can you imagine Federer saying 'oh well, i didnt play that that good today because he took a few games off me' after winning yet another grand slam. He has a serious and genuine contender for his crown as greatest ever player and he keeps trying, keeps aiming for records and shows respect for everyone he plays or speaks to.
Ronnie is shameful in his ways and id be quite happy if he stopped playing for good right now.
Arguably one of the greatest natural talents in sport.
i love how fast he takes his shots, no lining up for 5 minutes, sees it and pots
A brilliant player, sometimes getting a bonus is great and sometimes it ain't, I'm suprised by his attitude 4k is better than a kick in the face.
Arguably one of the greatest natural talents in sport.
Agreed, absolutely amazing and with both hands.
I think it is a bit out of order for the sake of those who have turned up to watch and would've been buzzing about seeing a 147.
At least he keeps the sport interesting though

Are your quotes right? He said he only potted it for the fans.
He said he potted it because jan verhaas persuaded him to, all he said about the fans was 'no not really' when asked if their reaction mattered.
Its not word for word of course, was written 5 minutes after the interview from memory.
any one got a vid link to this match?

you can now watch the entire thing :)
Sticking with legend, and he had no reason to pot the black as he said as the tournament had no maximum break prize :D
Legend .....
DT.
Just for you Aaron :)
Watch the vid at the bottom of the page http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/snooker/9016342.stm

Ahh, two different interviews. The one I watched was for Sky News.
That is incredible. It's a bit like a Golfer strolling up and telling everyone they WILL hit a hole in one, then doing it. Aside from whatever else he is, the guy is amazing
Oh no doubts there, which makes him so frustrating :D

ok, i'm not his biggest fan by any means believe me, but part of was thinking 'deliberately don't clear up, it'll be fecking hilarious'...
although, ultimately i'm glad Jan whatsit got him to, because otherwise all of the discussion at the next 2 or 3 tournaments would have been about ronnie not finishing up etc etc.. which would just have been tedious. they already talk about him far too much.
stupid that you can go and pull a frame like that out of the bag though and not get any kind of reward for it.
it's not like its an every day occurrence, the 2 best players ever only have 19 between them across their careers now.
i'm really not sure i like where Hearn is taking the game :(
the 2 best players ever only have 19 between them
19 televised 147s - between them they probably have hundreds from practise sessions or non-televised matches :thumb:
im not sure i would of sunk the black either.
it was going to be in protest over the guy who has took over snooker now, how he claimed that he would be adding more cash into the world of snooker, not taking it away for things like a 147.

I agree, I think he was saying look what I can do for this game and you're not even going to reward that!
This is just his snooker persona. As a man to talk to, he's very grounded and has time for everyone.
One of the greatest natural talents out there ever. Up there with the likes of George Best, Pele and Roger Federer.
Awesome talent & without doubt one of the most gifted people to ever come from this country.
He deffo has issues though.
Yep, no time for Ebdon to faf about and try and slow the game down.
