There's a few on here with iPhones and the Samsung Galaxy S. Would also look at other Android based pbones as the Galaxy isn't for everyone.

I have the Galaxy and upgraded to it from the iPhone 3gs and wouldnt go back now. But it does come down to personnal preferance.

Goto a phone shop and have a play with the following phones and see how u get on with them.

iPhone 4
Samsung Galaxy S
HTC Desire

I know there's a new HTC Desire coming out so check the release date on that too as that might be worth the wait looking at the specs too.

I have a HTC Desire and I love it - the screen quality is great, it is fast and responsive and has good signal strength. Mines on vodafone £35 per month, unlimited texts, unlimited internet and 600minutes.

Tystar is right - go to a shop and have a play. Remember also that for most iPhones you pay extra for the handset on top of the monthly fee

Managed to get my Desire (which is totally awesome btw) at £17.50 per month and £100 for the handset with Orange... unlimited texts, can't remember how many mins, and 750MB data :)

As mentioned the Desire HD and Desire Z should be out by the end of October, might be worth waiting as it'll push the cost of the Desire down ;)

Galaxy S,

got mine rooted now, with the 1clicklag fix. Score 2200 on Quadrant, fastest phone on the market by a large margin :D

Camera is absolutely superb, and great in low light mode too. HD video is mind blowing quality!

THe large super AMO led screen is also breathtaking.

Had a play with my bro's iphone 4 and not too keen.

£18.75 a month (after redemption)

600 mins, 500 text, unlimited internet! tmobile. and FREE galaxy S!

I was worried about not enough text but now i've got the galaxy i'm constantly on google chat, emailing etc (blame tystar for the google chat spam!)

that redemption thing is a worry for me.
we've done it in the past, worked one time, didn't see a penny another time (that ended up costing us an absolute fortune), so i'm a bit wary of it to say the least :|

Alright thats helped alot! - Seems to be some awesome deals out there on the Galaxy phone.. As i dont want to pay for the handset really :P Just the monthly bill would be good!
And yeah i didnt think about that.. Cause most of my mates facebookin' and all that jazz have it linked to there phone.. Apart from my mum & nan there still fairly old school to say the least ;) haha!

I really liked the look of the iphone but people were saying it isnt as good as people are on about and breaks alot and stuff so might be swaying towards the galaxy now.. but yeah ill pop in carphone warehouse or something and have a play with the phones haha! :D

If any of you see anymore good deals or have any good input that'll help me would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Even without redemption £25 is a snatch VS some of the £40-£45 tarifs you need to get the iphone4 free!

If going Android the new Desire HD is the one to go for, unless you need a keyboard in which case the Desire Z may be better. Both available free with a decent contract at £30 a month here:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/htc-desire-z-and-the-htc-desire-hd-/760690

The alternative is the Iphone 4, best deal for that is with three here:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/iphone-4-16gb-now-available-online-/753404

Personally I am still struggling to decide what way I prefer to go and keep switching between a HTC HD2 running a Desire ROM and a Iphone 3G.

Yeah i like the look of the iphone..
But the samsung galaxy has come out on top and also has alot of apps like the iphone..
One for me is some form of satnav app as my mum always gets lost! hahaha and instead of a 30minute journey it ends up an two hour ;) haha!

Desire and Galaxy and all android phones have loads of apps, similar to the iPhone - including "google maps" which gives turn by turn navigation :)

I can't think of anything that the iPhone has that can't be done on Android phones (different handsets have different hardware nach) - and generally speaking, Android mobs are cheaper. Ooh, and you don't need to use iTunes with and android phone :D

What the Iphone still has it the most stable platform, the best range of apps and some really good App offers (Monkey Island 1 & 2 for 59p each the other day). In particular if you are a keen gamer the difference between teh two is night and day. On the other hand the tech style apps are more the Android thing and it is far more open to being played with as standard. Also the competiton between manufacturers means the hardware is available for a much fairer price.

Can't say I've had a stability issue with mine, nor heard of any either (not really looked as it's never been an issue for me ;) ). Think I've reset my phone once in the 3 months or so I've had it :)

i'd say the galaxy is rock solid, with Freyo 2.2 around the corner too.

and the fastest phone by far to use.

Not a single random crash or lock up, regardless of apps running? Keep going and put some random widgets in there for good measure ;)

The difference is all in the App approval process and range of devices. Basically Apple personally ensures every app runs well on it's tiny range of devices. Android on the other hand doesn't have anywhere near such rigourous testing and has far more devices with different specs, drivers and settings to test it on.

I am not saying that Android is unstable, just that IOS is more stable.

and expensive! app wise, and phone and contract wise.

For most people tech savvy as per the forum android gives a great modding/tweakability you don't get with plug and pay I mean plug and play apple

the issue with android isnt all the handsets, its all the handset makers running different versions, sony on 1.6 samsung on 2.1 and htc on 2.2 and thats just 3 off the top of my head.

try running any software on windows 4, 5 and 6 for eg hell just try it on windows 5.1, 6 and 6.1

Well got my Galaxy Running 2.2 at the moment and liking some of the features but notice it's not quite as fast it was with the lag fix :(, Will root it and run lagfix in the next day or so and be back to running the fastest phone I've ever had and that inc my old iPhone 3gs..

Used Google Navigation for the first time today and well impressed. don't think I'll be using my old sat nav to much nowadys.

Is the Galaxy simple to use/set up? With these lagfix and stuff? Sounds complicated to me.. Im pretty good with phones just wonder if its easy enough to do and clear?

Thanks!

Easily on a par even has street view so u can actually see the turn as you will in the car so no getting confused at forks in the road etc.

Try it and see.

In which case it's dead easy....

Rooting Samsung Galaxy S is fairly easy, today we will tell you step by step instructions to root the Samsung Galaxy S. We’ve rooted our brand new Samsung Galaxy S India version (GT-I9000) using this method and it works great. Before we start please understand that standard disclaimers apply and we should not be held responsible if anything goes wrong with your Galaxy S. Rest assured it is very easy, the tutorial below can be used even by the beginners.

Rooting Samsung Galaxy S Tutorial

Download the Update.zip file for rooting Galaxy S from the following location Download from Rapidshare (http://rapidshare.com/files/408432328/update.zip)| Filesize: 1.2 MB

Select Mass Storage on your phone by going to Settings –> About phone –> USB Settings –> Mass Storage
Connect your Galaxy S via bundled USB and turn on USB Storage by going to top sliding menu which has controls for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc and tap on USB connected
Transfer Update.zip file downloaded in step 1 to the root folder of Galaxy S (for eg. D:\ ) where D is the Galaxy S drive.
Now shut down your Galaxy S and unplug the USB cable
Now Simultaneously press Home, Volume+(top volume) and Power button for a few seconds, the phone will boot itself into Android System Recovery mode and you will be presented with the following screen
