I just thought I'd share this.
I've been servicing a Vista laptop for a client's teenage daughter - the usual virus infested mess. After doing a full cleanup, the laptop was still taking about 3-4 mins to boot, mainly hanging on the "Please Wait" screen before the logon screen.
On investigation of the performance & Windows logs, I noticed that the HP CUE Discovery & Ipod services seemed to be the culprits. I tried updating & repairing the relevant software, with no improvement. Disabling the services worked, reducing the boot time to just over a minute, however these services were needed.
I changed the HP CUE service to manual & the Ipod service to auto (delayed start); the laptop now boots in about 1 minute, & both services are running.
Anyone else come across anything like this? It seems odd that both services now run just fine, even the HP CUE service which is set to manual starts with no interaction.
Regards
