The Abit has 8GB MAX Memory and the Foxcom only has 4GB MAX. Also the Abit has 8 Sata Ports, the Foxcom only has 5.

But that doesnt really matter to be honest unless you going to put more than 5 hard drive in the pc. Also the Foxcom is cheaper but out of stock, but should be instock again soon.

You have the cheek to use **** and ask for support from aria? Fair enough if you dont like aria, but dont use their stuff if your not gonna buy, thats just cheap..

He hasnt decided which mobo to go for, so he might go for Aria's modo. If you think out it he would probley get the same reaction if he posted on OC as it contains an Aria link so just calm down a little bit.

the abit is a better chipset 965 as apposed to the 945 on the foxconn. I was under the impression 945 only supported upto 800mhz fsb chips but it would seem that is no longer the case, according to the specs on Arias webby anyway. I would appear to only support 667mhz memory though compared to the Abits 800mhz.

The Abit is by far the superior board, even though im not a fan of Abits mobo's.

I'm comparing between alot of websites, narrowed it down to those two, and i am going to go for the aria one, as i will only be using 2HDDs and 2-4GB RAM, but, is the foxconn compatable with http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Core+2+Duo+E6850+3.00GHz+%28775%29+?productI d=27973 first anyone, if so i will be buying the aria one?

yes that will work fine with the motherboard

mac124
20-10-07, 17:06
Yes the foxconn would be compatible with that cpu, however it only runs at slow memory speeds bottle necking the fast cpu you chose and leaves no scope for upgrading should you decide to go quad core or upgrade to a new 1333fsb cpu in the future as it is a very low end motherboard. Personally i would pay a little more and get a better motherboard, something like http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/Asus+P5KPL-VM%2C+iG31+LGA775+Core2+Quad+%2F+Extreme+%2F+Core2 +Duo+?productId=28610

Asus P5KPL-VM, iG31 LGA775 Core2 Quad / Extreme / Core2 Duo Quickcode: #28610 if the linky doesn't work which is a shade over £50, also the Foxconn doesn't appear to be in stock at the mo.

Micky007

I agree, thats no point in buying a motherboard that doesnt allow you to upgrade your system in the future when new stuff come out.

Thanks for the help so far, i am now going to purchase the ASUS mobo

Now i need compatable RAM, 2GB, in a bundle or 2single 1GB, whatever is cheapest, and good performance :)

Asus P5KPL-VM, iG31 LGA775 I can't find if that has onboard graphics, if not i need a half decent >50 graphics card, as i won't be playing games, just need to look good basically, nothing 8800GTS

Thanks alot, that will do me, as i am not using it for any games, just some photoshop and web browsing, and a few other various things. Sorry if i seem a pain but, is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.00GHz too much for what i need, and could i just get, a dual core 2.6GHz? and overclock?

Micky007
20-10-07, 22:07
Hi,

Yes, i have a E6600 which is 2.8 and i use Photoshop *alot* and its completly fine. You can even overclock the 2.8 to 3.2 !

mac124
21-10-07, 10:10
If you are a hardcore user of Photoshop then you might want to consider the q6600 quadcore. I'm not a photoshopper myself but i believe it makes use of quad cores, and if you can up it to similar speeds to the 6850, which shouldn't be impossible with the right cooling, you will have double the cores at a similar speed for the same £££.

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 10:49
Well, i only really use photoshop, cinema 4d and visual basic.
I think the quad core 2.4GHz delivers 40% more power than the single cores, so i, in theory, should be getting 3.4GHz, for £7 more, but that may be too much for what i need, i am thinking a dual core 2.8GHz? Aria don't seem to stock them, not sure if they exist?

mac124
21-10-07, 11:07
Well the Q6600 whilst it is a few mhz slower 2.4ghz compared to 3ghz of the 6850 imho for the money it would be the better choice for your applications, especially if you don't mind overclocking. If you were a gamer i would say get the 6850 as not many games (if any) really make use of quad core at the mo so the extra speed of the individual cores would be better.

There is a 2.66ghz cpu (6700) but again it is around the same price as the others so again imho the quad would be the better buy.

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 11:13
I'm going with the quad core, but i need to know how to over clock, know any good guides?

cleggypdc
21-10-07, 11:19
My suggestions are that you read the following wiki articles if you want to be able to do it properly (without a guide)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_side_bus

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_locking

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperPi

And here are some guides :P

Thanks, i currently have a 250W PSU, surelt i will need a better one?

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 11:23
And IF i overclocked the quad, would stock cooling be ok, if it was only going up to 2.5??

cleggypdc
21-10-07, 11:34
yes, you are definately going to need a new PSU :)

I recommend modular ones, as they leave room for future expansion plus any cables you don't use you can take off to keep your case tidy.

something like this should suffice:

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/500w+%2B/Xilence+750W+Redwing+Modular+PSU+?productId=27461

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 11:34
I've decided a 450W will be ok, as i am not overclocking

cleggypdc
21-10-07, 11:43
Branded or come with case?

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 11:44
This is basically a new build, started off as updates, but i have completely overhauled my rig, well i should do, when it comes.

I've got a budget of £500, and already spent £460.37, so i've got £39.63 for a PSU :)

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 11:46
I'm keepning current case, HD & Drives, so it'll be branded

PeterStoba
21-10-07, 11:48

Is this spec correct

CPU - Intel Dual Core 3.0GHz
Motherboard - Asus P5KPL-VM
RAM - 2x DDR2 PC26400 1GB
Graphics Card - Onboard
HD - 2x500GB SATAII 8mb, 40GB backup & 320GB External
Drive - 1x LiteOn DVD-RW 20x & 1x Emprex DVD-RW 8x
Display - 22" Hyundai Widescreen

or are you getting the quad-core?

mac124

As you're not running a chunky gfx card either of those should be ok. If you did want a modular psu as suggested by Cleggy then you might want to consider the Thermaltake TR2 RX W0146 450W Modular PSU Quickcode: #28847

cleggypdc
21-10-07, 12:11
i agree, this should be fine.

One last question

Will the Intel Quad Core 2.4GHz, Asus P5KPL-VM and the 2 500GB HD (Not sure what model yet) be ok temperature, in a plain case with just 2front fans?

Micky007
22-10-07, 13:38
yes, aslong as you dont overclock its fine.

PeterStoba
22-10-07, 14:03
Can you recommend some 120mm fans for my case too, 2 or 3, just to keep the thing cool, quiet ones.

I need a case window, Aria don't stock though  Could i cut out a shape, insert perspex, and stick on with some high adesive glue perhaps? not done much case modding before, done the odd build of a computer, but i'm still fairly new, only being 13.

Also, does anyone know if the case soundproofing foam works?

Micky007
22-10-07, 14:06
you making this to complicated, if you want a window then why not just buy a case with a window?

PeterStoba
22-10-07, 14:08
Suppose so, thanks for the help.

Biodoid
22-10-07, 15:29
antec 900 for case lol has a window 3 x 120mm fans and a 200mm fan :P

Just buy a case with a window such as the Antec nine hundred as per above ^^^^^^ :P

There should be enough connectors free to add a couple more fans.

I have the 700W version and theres several spares.

For fans and stuff like that i tend to either get a Zalman multi fan adapter which allows the connection of upto 4x 3pin fans (2 at 12v and 2 at 7v iirc) Zalman 4X3Pin Multi-fan Connector Quickcode: #6623

Or some Y splitter cables for things like lights etc if you need more molex connectors.

Yep, especially with this only being my second build.

I've posted this on 2 forums, and this has gave me the better response, on the other forum, i got hardly anything, on this, i got everything, and more.

Great forum, especially with so few active members
