View Full Version : HDD always working!
Alright:mrgreen:
Ive been using vista for a few weeks now and noticed that the HDD is always working!
Its my C: as my HDD light is working. I dont know what its doing!
Its sounds like its searching for somthing. Ive turned indexing off but i read that you cant turn it off on C?
Is there a way to tell what its doing? Ive looked in task manager and just the usual processes in there etc.
Any ideas?:sad:
I believe it indexes (as you've said) and it'll also defragment on the fly whenever you ain't using it... Which is nice.
And the big question...
How to stop it!? I didnt buy a load of quiet fans and a good case to be let down by constant HDD noise!

Buy a quieter hard disk
Buy a hard disk silencer;

Install Windows XP
Cheaper than quiet fans and hard disks;

You can turn indexing off, although if you use the Vista search boxes it will slow these down slightly.
The fasted way is to simply disable the Windows Search service.
Run Services (just type Services at the Start Search bar), right click on the Windows Search service and select Properties. Then choose Disabled for the start type. Afterwards, you have to stop this service by right clicking on it and selecting Stop.

Thats what i did though:|
I think i might have to manually do it by unticking the box in the driver properties....It will take a while:sad:
