I'm going to buy it (Orange Box) from a retail outlet when it comes out. You know, so I actually OWN the frigging game. I hate Steam so much.

I hate Discs more than Steam, the damn things are so annoying! Waste of space in my opinion.

But with Steam I don't feel as though I own the game. Valve merely allows me to download it, being the puny mortal I am. But I want a big fat box and DVD that says I own it. Also I have this weird compulsion to retain packaging. I still have the boxes for most of the electronic devices I've bought in my life. Going back as far as my Nintendo 64, its games etc. Pretty insane, seeing as how I've moved house since then. <_<;

Get help.

I know I own the product because I have a purchase code which is saved onto my computer, I also have an e-mail reciept. I also know I own the product because it lets me play it!
One day removable media will be dead! I hope that day is SOON

Also, I am looking forward to Portal more than EP2, am I a bad person?

what i think he means is having portal multiplayer so you can battle against people online

i hope valve adds the portal device intothe next half life 2 episode would be great

Absolutely not - HL2 E2 is the game I will play last when I get the box (on DVD ;D)

Indeed, I should be able to make a fair bit with my original, big box copies of Quake, Quake II and Quake III Arena should I ever decide to sell them... I have Doom 3, Quake 4 and ET: Quake Wars (all special collector's editions) too, but they're not worth mentioning in the same sentence. Also Doom II big box. Maybe I could do a massive "Ultimate id Software collection" auction in the future, or something. =D

Jeez, all these special collecters editions!

Don't you ever feel like cattle queing up to be milked by the publishers?

Not at all. I love their games, I buy their games (with some exceptions - I'm looking at you, Doom 3 ¬_¬). There's no "milking" going on.

I know you're just trying to justify buying that Halo 3: Legendary Edition (http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/3336887/-/Product.html?searchstring=halo+legendary&searchsource=0)

Wouldn't be a problem if they were in the attic... They're just strewn everywhere XD

And whichever boob suggested I bought any version of Halo 3, let alone the one with the DVD-scratching helmet can go and die. I wouldn't play such an "insipid boom-fest" (probably the most accurate thing I've heard it called).

i must admit it does feel better when you have a hard copy on cd, whenever i download music I always end p buying the album if i like it enough

(this of course is music by unsigned artists who allow their music online downloads for free):P

To go back ontopic:

I completed portal's storyline mission yesterday and it's a really good game! I wasn't expecting the hilarious humour, or the fact that theres actually a half decent story in there.
I assumed it was all puzzle solving and nothing else. I was wrong! I love portal!

I love how vast the environments feel in HL2, when your in the buggy for example in the dunes and even though its quiet linear it never feels that way! HL2 gave me a real purpose to get to the end.

Portal have any of the above endophin rush lol?

You can pull off some mindblowing tricks in portal.

At the beginning of the game I was trying to wrap my head around how the portals actually worked, it messes with your brain entirely as you have to ditch conventional thinking for thinking in portals! When I started to get the hang of it I couldn't stop smiling about how cool it was.

For example, its not "how to I jump this enormous gap?", its "how can I use portals to accelerate myself fast enough to fly to the other side".
And by chaining a few portal jumps together you can accelerate to some insane speeds and fly all over the level like a loon!

I'm half way through episode 2, and when I look at Alyx all I can think of is Portal.

SPOILS:
Did anyone else laugh with glee as Alyx died?
"Die you annoying female! That will make you shut your yap once and for all!"
Then get cross when they brought her back?
Seriously though, she was kinda cool in Half Life 2, got a bit clingy in EP1, and is just plain stifling in EP2. Freeman needs to dump Alyx for Chell from Portal, shes way hotter and can teleport herself anywhere. ANYWHERE gentlemen, whats not to like!?

Portal > All games so far this year for me.

As Yahtzee says, I was just expecting a puzzle solver, and what you get is a brilliant puzzle solver with some great adrenaline kicks when you do something awesome, and lashings of the darkest humour you can get.

A truly great game and much better than EP2.

Agree 100%

Portal is the best game so far this year, as I have been saying. I can't stop myself going back for a quick go on one of the challenge maps. Another thing thats so great about this game; you can just spend a free 10 minutes having a quick go at a level.
